How to change oven recipes for the air fryer?
Did you know you can adapt almost any sheet pan dinner for the air fryer? This is just one of the many reasons why I love to use my air fryer. Normally, you cook these recipes in the oven, but converting recipes for the oven is actually so easy.
2 tips for converting recipes for the air fryer
I like to keep changing recipes for the air fryer simple. Here are two things to keep in mind when you convert oven recipes for the air fryer. You can watch my complete guide to converting recipes for the air fryer in this video or you can read it here.
Tip #1: Drop the temperature by 10-25 degrees
I like to start by dropping the temperature by 10-25 degrees as it is written in the oven recipe instructions.
For example, if I am cooking a recipe that calls to cook something at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, I will cook it in my air fryer at 380 degrees Fahrenheit.
Tip #2: Cut the baking time in half
After lowering the temperature by 10-25 degrees, I then cut the baking time in half as it is written for the oven.
For example, if a chicken recipe says to cook it in the oven for 20 minutes, I will cook it in air fryer for 10 minutes.
Then, I use my instant read thermometer to gauge whether or not my food is done cooking. I will then add more time as needed until my food comes to temperature.
In the example of the chicken recipe, my chicken will be done cooking once it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. If, after cooking for 10 minutes, my chicken is not done, I will cook it in the air fryer for an additional 2-3 minutes (depending on how close it is to doneness).
Air Fryer Pro Tip: Get an instant read food thermometer.
If you have not already invested in a good instant read food thermometer, you need to get one if you want to see success in the kitchen. Pair your instant read thermometer with this free internal temperature guide to get ultimate results and be a boss in the kitchen!
