Make Delicious Grilled Orange-Glazed Carrots in 3 Steps!

This is my new favorite way to eat carrots! Simple and inexpensive, but unique and flavorful. I don’t know many people that grill their carrots, but now I do! And you can too!

These grilled glazed carrots are a fantastic, healthy side dish to throw together for any BBQ! And with the orange glaze, they’re bursting with flavor and freshness. A must-try if you ask me!

Peeled carrots in ice bath

Step 1. Prepare the Carrots for Grilling

The carrots don’t get quite cooked through enough on the grill alone, so it is best to boil them briefly beforehand. Before boiling, be sure to trim the stems off and peel the carrots. Cook them until tender, but still crisp.

Once finished, use an ice bath to stop the residual cooking from the boiling. At this point, you can set the carrots aside for several hours, if you want, until you’re ready to grill ’em up.

When it’s time to grill, preheat the BBQ and mix up the glaze!

Step 2. Mix the Orange Glaze

The orange glaze is easy and just the right flavor with a little kosher salt, melted butter, honey or pure maple syrup, orange zest, and balsamic vinegar.

This yummy orange glaze helps the carrots to lightly caramelize and, of course, adds great flavor!

Step 3. Grill!

Roll the carrots around in the glaze, then throw them directly onto the grill for 4-6 minutes. It doesn’t take long since the carrots were previously boiled!

To finish them off, back into the remaining glaze they go, place the glazed carrots on a tray or platter, then sprinkle on some fresh chopped parsley. Beautiful!

Final Thoughts

As I’ve said, this is a simple recipe perfect for a BBQ or family dinner. It’s one of our favorite Easter dinner recipes too! Adds a little bit of oomph as opposed to eating plain old carrots.

What do you think? Will you be grilling carrots soon? Making carrots on the BBQ definitely isn’t the norm, but it’s something you should try!

Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Large bowl
  • Grill

Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons kosher salt divided
  • 12 medium carrots about 1 inch wide at stem and 6-8 inches long
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 2 tablespoons honey or pure maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons finely grated orange zest
  • 2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh Italian parsley

Instructions

  • Fill a large pot with water up to a few inches from the top. Add 2 teaspoons of the salt to the water and bring it to a boil over high heat.
  • Trim off the green stems and leaves of the carrots an inch or so above the end of each carrot, if needed. Peel the carrots. Add them to the boiling water and cook until tender but still crisp, 4-6 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, prepare a bowl with ice water. Remove the carrots from the pot and quickly plunge them into the ice bath. Then remove the carrots from the ice bath and drain. At this point, you could set the carrots aside for several hours, if desired.
  • When you are ready to grill, heat the grill for direct cooking over medium heat.
  • In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, honey, orange zest, vinegar, and remaining 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Add the carrots to the bowl and toss to coat. Remove carrots from the bowl. Set bowl aside.
  • Grill carrots over direct medium heat, with the lid closed as much as possible, until lightly caramelized, 4-6 minutes, turning occasionally. Place carrots back into bowl with the remaining butter mixture. Toss to coat. Garnish with parsley and serve warm.
