What kind of pork loin roast should I buy?
You can buy either pre-cut and/or frozen pork chops or a pork loin roast. Before you run off to the store, check out this money saving tip.
Money saving tip
Normally, when I make this recipe I will only need 4 to 6 pork chops. So, to save money, I like to purchase one large pork loin roast. Then, I will cut up the pork loin roast into 1/2 to 1 inch thick slices.
Next, I take any leftover pork chops that I have already cut up and place them a freezer safe Ziploc bag.
Ways to add more savory flavors:
Add in apple cider vinegar or rice wine vinegar to add another layer of depth to the garlic sauce. A teaspoon of mustard, low-sodium soy sauce, or chicken broth can also add more flavor as well.
How do you cook pork chops so they don’t dry out?
To cook juicy pork chops in the air fryer, follow these steps.
Step 1: Preheat air fryer
Preheat the air fryer to 380˚F or 193˚C. (If your air fryer doesn’t have a preheating setting, run it empty for 5 minutes at 380˚F or 193˚C).
Step 2: Mix sauce ingredients
In a small mixing bowl, combine honey, ketchup, soy sauce, and garlic. You can also add salt and black pepper to taste.
Step 3: Prepare pork chops
After mixing up the sauce, pat the pork chops dry. Then, sprinkle pork chops with salt and black pepper.
Brush each pork chop with prepared sauce on both sides.
Step 4: Air fry pork chops
Air fry pork for 10 minutes at 380˚F or 193˚C, flipping halfway, or until the internal temperature of pork chops reaches 145˚F or 63˚C. (Cooking time may vary depending on thickness of the pork chops and your air fryer so be sure to use a meat thermometer to check).
Extra juicy tip
To help the pork chops get extra juicy and tender, stop cooking the pork chops once it reaches an internal temperature of 140˚F or 60˚C. Then, either keep them in the warm air fryer or wrap them in the tin foil.
Let the chops sit for 5 or so minutes until they come to 145˚F or 63˚C on your instant read thermometer.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the internal temperature of pork chops?
Pork, like pork chops, pork tenderloin, or steak, is fully cooked once it reaches an internal temperature of 145˚F or 63˚C.
What is the difference between pork loin roast and pork tenderloin?
Pork loin and pork tenderloin comes from generally the same back area of the pig. However,
- pork loin is usually a wider cut of meat. Whereas,
- pork tenderloin, also known as pork fillet or pork steak, is a long, thin cut of meat that comes from the psoas major muscle on a pig.
Pork tenderloin is boneless. And, pork loin can come with bone-in or boneless, it just depends on what you want! For this recipe, you make it bone-in or boneless.
Can I substitute pork tenderloin with pork loin?
Because pork tenderloin and pork loin are different sizes of meat, the cooking process will be different. I do not recommend using pork tenderloin for this recipe as you will have much smaller and thinner slices of meat.
