Grilled Lemon Garlic Asparagus Recipe

Easy and delicious asparagus recipe!

Spring is the best time of the year for asparagus and I intend to fully enjoy it! I recently discovered that I love grilling asparagus – it is fast, easy, and delicious. You can grill it to tender-crisp perfection!

The first step is to rinse the asparagus and trim off the bottom ends. Then roll them around in some olive oil, salt, and pepper. That’s basically it for prep – they are ready for the grill!

I grill the asparagus over a medium high heat on a grill pan. While it is quite handy, the grill pan isn’t necessary. You can place the asparagus directly on the grill grates, if you’re very careful, or on a grill mat. Another option is an asparagus “raft.” Insert a couple of skewers or toothpicks crosswise through some of the asparagus, leaving a small space between each. The idea is that they are connected to each other so it is less likely for them to fall through the grill grates.

Anyway, once they are cooked to a nice tender-crisp, you remove them from the grill and add some more flavor! I really like this garlic, lemon, and Parmesan combo. You can use the store-bought grated Parmesan, that is more like a powder, or freshly grated Parmesan. Either is delicious!

Grilled Lemon Garlic Asparagus Recipe

Yield: 1 lb | Serves: 6

Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh asparagus, bottom ends trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons grated Parmesan
  • juice of 1 lemon (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest (optional)
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat grill to medium high heat.
  2. Place the asparagus in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Then drizzle olive oil over asparagus and toss to coat.
  3. Transfer asparagus to the grill and cook for 5-10 minutes over medium high heat until they are fork tender and have char marks. Remove asparagus from grill and return to the baking sheet. Sprinkle on the garlic, Parmesan, lemon juice and zest; toss to coat.
  4. Serve immediately. Top with a little bit of additional Parmesan or lemon zest, if desired.
