Ingredients and Supplies to Make Keto Chicken with Bacon and Ranch
Simple pantry staples combine to create rich, creamy flavors with smoky bacon, while heavy cream and cheese add a luxurious texture. Fresh broccoli brings color and nutrients to round out the dish.
Ingredients
- Butter
- Homemade Ranch seasoning mix (not Ranch dressing)
- Cream cheese
- Heavy cream
- Reduced sodium chicken broth
- Crumbled cooked bacon
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Frozen broccoli florets
- Shredded cooked chicken
What Kind of Chicken to Use
For this keto chicken casserole, you have several convenient options:
- Rotisserie chicken: Rotisserie chicken is a quick, easy, and flavorful option. Just shred it and add it directly to the recipe.
- Leftover chicken breasts: Leftover grilled or baked chicken works well. Ensure it’s unseasoned to allow the Ranch flavors to shine through.
- Canned chicken: If you don’t have any prepared chicken on hand, use canned chicken as a last-minute alternative.
Veggie Alternatives and Additions
We love the flavor combination with broccoli but feel free to switch things up or add more veggies. These vegetables are low-carb and provide different flavors and textures that complement the dish:
- Cauliflower: Cauliflower florets are another great low-carb veggie similar to broccoli.
- Spinach: Add fresh spinach at the very end of cooking. This leafy vegetable is loaded with nutrients!
- Bell peppers: Bell peppers add a nice crunch and a pop of color.
Supplies
- Large skillet (my favorite is a cast iron skillet)
- Air fryer
How to Make This Keto Chicken Recipe
Step 1: Prepare the Sauce
In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Reduce heat to medium-low and add Ranch seasoning, cream cheese, heavy cream, broth, crumbled bacon, and cheese. Whisk to combine and cook the sauce for about 5 minutes.
Step 2: Prepare the Broccoli and Chicken
Shred or dice the cooked chicken. You can shred chicken with 2 forks or my favorite method that is so quick and easy is using my Kitchen Aid. Check out this post: How to shred chicken in a Kitchen Aid mixer to see how much faster it makes shredding chicken!
Steam the broccoli in the microwave for about 2 minutes. Stir the chicken and broccoli into the sauce until they are well-coated.
Step 4: Air Fry
Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mixture to an air fryer-safe dish. Place the dish in the air fryer and cook for about 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and melted. Air fry for an additional 2-3 minutes for a more crispy topping. Cooking times may vary depending on the model of the air fryer, so keep an eye on the dish to prevent overcooking.
You can also transfer the skillet to the oven and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes.
Keto Casserole
How to Store Leftovers
- Refrigerate: Allow the dish to cool completely before storing. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
- Reheat: Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes, until warmed through, or in the microwave for 1-2 minutes.
Macronutrients
This keto chicken casserole is not only delicious but also well-balanced for those on a keto diet:
- Carbohydrates: This food is low in carbs, with only about 9g net carbs per serving, making it perfect for staying in ketosis.
- Protein: Packed with protein from the chicken and cheese, providing around 34g per serving.
- Fat: High in healthy fats (37g per serving) from the cream, cheese, and bacon, which help keep you full and satisfied.
- Fiber: 2g of fiber per serving, mainly from the broccoli, aiding in healthy digestion.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I freeze the leftovers?
Yes, you can freeze the leftovers. Let the casserole cool completely, then transfer it to an airtight container or freezer-safe bag. Freeze for up to 2 months. When ready to eat, thaw in the refrigerator overnight and reheat in the air fryer or oven.
Can I steam the broccoli first, or can I cook it fresh in the casserole dish?
You can cook the broccoli fresh in the casserole dish if you prefer. However, steaming it beforehand ensures it’s tender, helps retain its bright color, and reduces cooking time. If using fresh, unsteamed broccoli, you may need to increase the cooking time slightly to ensure it’s fully cooked.
Final Thoughts
This keto chicken recipe is a versatile and satisfying option for any meal. Whether you’re preparing it for a quick dinner or making it ahead for busy days, the creamy Ranch sauce, crispy bacon, and cheesy broccoli are sure to please everyone at the table. Serve it over cauliflower rice, to make it even more filling!
Don’t hesitate to experiment with different veggies or toppings to make it your own. Enjoy this hearty, keto-friendly, gluten-free dish with your loved ones!

Oh this is so yummy! Gorgeous pics too Melanie!
Thank you! It can be tricky to get decent pics of a casserole-type dish, so I was hoping that they turned out to look at least a little bit as delicious as it tastes.
What kind of shredded cheese is best for this?
Looks like cheddar or sharp cheddar.
Thanks Deani! Yes Janelle… you could use any cheddar. I’ve even used the Mexican cheese blend from Costco!
I just made this dish (with chicken thighs) and it was absolutely fantastic.
How many servings does this feed?
Happy Birthday!!!!!
Thank you Renee!
oooo its very yummy so delicious….
Glad you like it, kulwinder kaur! Thank you!
Thanks for the recipe and it was delish ,big hit!! Oh both our birthdays are the same day. Lol
Awesome! Hope you had a wonderful birthday! Thanks for your comment and review, Jennifer. 🙂
Have you made it the night before, then cooked it the next day??
Thanks 🙂
I’ve just baked it and then enjoyed leftovers the next day and they were tasty! I’m sure it would fine to make up the sauce and then reheat it with the chicken and broccoli the next day. Let us know how it goes!
How many servings does this recipe make? I am making it for 15 people and want to be sure to adjust accordingly
Hi Jennifer, you’ll see up in the recipe box that it notes that it serves 5.
What is a serving size?
I too am wondering how large a serving size would be
Going off of memory here… pretty sure a serving size is about a cup. Next time I make it I will figure that out and update the post.
Amazeballs!!
Glad you loved!
Absoulety love this recipe, thank you!!!!!
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Thanks for coming back and reporting too 😀
Great recipe – yummy
Awesome, thanks for the review Hollie!
How do you make the ranch seasoning mix?
Hi Sheila, the recipe is linked above… here it is as well:
https://fabulesslyfrugal.com/recipes/ranch-seasoning-mix-recipe/
Just made this…..so amazing.
Glad you enjoyed it Sheila! Thanks for coming back and sharing your review too! 🙂
Does this freeze well do you know? Kinda large portion for just me!
Cream sauces don’t thaw out too great after being frozen. I’m sure it will taste good, but the cream will likely be broken up/watery. You could use the prepare app and easily reduce the # of servings and it will do all the math for you on all the ingredients! 🙂 More info on the prepare app here: https://fabulesslyfrugal.com/prepear-review-best-free-meal-planning-app/
Loved it! Wouldn’t change a thing!
So happy to hear you loved it Karen! 🙂 Thanks for sharing your review!
Hi Cathy
This recipe was fantastic! I am curious about the macros listed. 0 fiber? And .5 Trans fat per Serving? I don’t see out of any of my ingredients any transfat. Where are you getting yours? I was thinking The broccoli may add a gram of fiber? I haven’t done the math, just a rough guess. Thanks for the recipe. I’ll be using this one often.
Hi Jerry, glad you enjoyed it!
As far as the macros, I entered this into myfitnesspal just to compare with the one we have here (the text in the directions can sometimes throw the numbers off) and got the following (of course it could change slightly depending on exact brand of ingredients you may use):
Cal 547
Fat 38
Trans Fat 0
Carbs 8
Fiber 2
Protein 40
Here’s a screenshot of what it looks like: https://www.screencast.com/t/PXZrr9bK6na
I suggest you use MFP and put the recipe in there with your own ingredients and weigh your chicken in grams and see what you get. And of course, you might decide you can get more servings out of this meal as well. If you put it over cauliflower rice, it’ll be even more filling!
Are these numbers for the entire recipe or each individual serving? Some of the numbers look high if this is per serving.
It is per serving, but if I were you, I would import the recipe into myfitnesspal and type in the exact brand of ingredients you are using and then see what the nutrition info comes up as for you. I believe there is fiber in this as well because of the broccoli. Sometimes the nutrition info program we have isn’t 100% accurate.
My family and I have decided to go low carb and started with making this meal for my family tonight. I was astonished the whole family loved it including my picky kids. Thank you
Glad to hear it!
This was amazing!!!
So glad you enjoyed it Michelle!
The recipe calls for 1/4 cup bacon, but the says to add 1/2 c bacon to the recipe. On which measurement was the nutritional info based?
Ugh. My error. I see now the 1/4 cup is for the topping. 3/4 c total.
Glad you got it worked out Karen. 🙂
This was SO delicious and such a hit in my home! Quick and easy to make as well 🙂 we’ll definitely be making this again in the near future. Yummy.
Glad you enjoyed Lauren! Thanks for taking the time to rate it! 🙂
Wow,!! The flavour was amazing! My husband loved it! Effortless! Will def. are this again !!
Yaaaaaas! SOOO good! Glad you found it!
This looks divine!!!! I am a sucker for chicken, bacon, and ranch anything! Now that I’m eating low-carb this will be peeeerfect!!!!! I can’t wait to try this.
Sweet! Come back and rate the recipe once you’ve tried it!
What type of cheese did you use?
In these photos, it’s the Kirkland brand of Monterey Jack cheese. But cheddar works great too. This is just what was on hand (because it’s a great deal at Costco). 🙂
I never review anything but I felt completely compelled to review this recipe. This is BY FAR the VERY BEST keto recipe I have EVER made! Thank you so so much. We are having it again tonight it was so good. Making it next week also. Going to be a regular thing thanks so much!
Woo hoo! Well thanks for letting me know how much you love it!
Made this for a family of 4 1/2. It was said by all it was good. The only thing is that I looked up specifically for keto family dinners was just barely enough for all we wished the serving size was more than literally a cup each. But it was still good enough to make again only next time more. Ps. We like tripled the chicken. Not that we are all hogs but we just would have liked a bit more. 👍
Great, thanks for sharing Tammy!
We are going to try it this week. We are vegetarians, so I will submit Quorn brand chicken tenders and veggie stock.
Cool, let us know how it turns out!
Are the nutrition facts based on one serving or the whole recipe? Just want to be sure! I’m not Keto, so thinking of subbing some lesser fat ingredients!
Hi Jennifer! Just one serving! I’d enter into my fitness pal though, because the ingredients you use will change the nutrition results slightly. Please come back and let us know how you make this a “skinny” version! 🙂
This recipe is very good. It is one of the better Keto recipes that I have made. I will definitely make it on a regular basis. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I heard this was really good. Doing it in my slow cooker.
Julie B here. Followed recipe except mixed up everything in my crock pot. Cook on medium x2 hrs. Ridiculously easy & yummy and plenty for supper tomorrow.
Awesome! Thanks for letting us know how it worked in the slow cooker!
I could eat that sauce on just about anything. We loved this recipe. Wouldn’t change a thing.
That’s awesome! Glad you enjoyed it Tara!
Sorry if this has been asked . Are the nutritional values given for the whole recipe , or for a one cup serving?
Hey Dawn, I’m Dawn too. Just thought I would answer for her since I just got finish reading ALL the comments…lol! It’s a serving size. She suggest that you enter it into myfitness pal because the ingredients you use may alter nutritional value.
Thank you Dawn! 🙂
Cathy I have a question. I wonder how it would turn out if you used spinach instead of broccoli …what are your thoughts?
Hi Dawn! I would just add cooked spinach at the very end. Spinach seems to get soggy if overcooked. Otherwise, if you love the taste of spinach, then I think it’ll be wonderful! Let us know how it goes!
I just made this, and I love it! I don’t even feel like it was a low carb meal. Simply delicious!!
Thanks for leaving your review! And you’re right… it is DELISH!
Currently on the keto diet and this is one of my favorite dishes. It is so very yummy!!
Ah yeah!!
Great recipe. Nice creamy flavor. Was worried about only using ranch for seasoning but it is well-seasoned. Rotisserie chicken is a great shortcut (and added flavor bomb). I cooked bacon for this recipe and it added prep time.
Next time I make it, I’m considering adding cauliflower rice. Recipe TBD.
I love serving it over cauliflower rice! It’s so great!
Made this tonight. I did not use homemade ranch seasoning but rather from a packet. Turned out delicious. Highly recommend!
Glad you enjoyed it and made it work for you!
Hi! Thank for sharing your recipe. Wondering if canned chicken breast would work?
It sure will! Enjoy!
Love this recipe! Do you Think you could Sub Chicken for hamburger?
Hi Traci! I haven’t tried it before, but I imagine it would still be tasty! Please come back and let us know how it goes!
Hi Cathy,
Do you know if this recipe will freeze well?
Hi Sara! Cream cheese and whipping cream don’t freeze well. So if you want, you could prepare everything else, and then the day of cooking, make up the “sauce” of the mixture and add it. I’d say the best way to save time on prepping this meal is to use some chicken that’s already been cooked and throw it in your mixture. Hope that helps!
Great, thanks for the tip 😊
Family loved it! I only did half the bacon serving and also add cooked the sauce with a little of the bacon grease and it was delicious! This will be a go to with our family as everyone loved it!
Awesome! Glad to hear it was a hit!
Is there something else that you can put in for the broccoli most of my family wont eat it?
Any veggie that they like should work. Cauliflower is super yummy with this blend of chicken and cheese. I know some use spinach as well.
Have you tried freezing the left overs?
Hi Katie! No, only because it goes so fast, there are never leftovers! 🙂 I’m also not sure how well the cream sauce would freeze. I think when it thaws out, it won’t be nice and smooth and creamy, even after reheating. But if you end up doing it, please come back and let me know how it goes!
This recipe is so GOOD! My two young boys love it and usually can’t stand the cauliflower rice! Thank God for people like you in the world that come up with these amazing dishes!
Yay! Glad to hear it was a hit! <3
Am I blind. I would like to make this. Can you please tell me the nutritional value. Many thanks
If I made this the night before a big family dinner, all the way done on the stove top but didn’t bake it yet, then kept it in the fridge overnight. How long would you estimate I need to bake a double batch straight from the refrigerator?
I can’t rate the recipe yet because I haven’t made it yet. 🙂
Hi Yvonne! So you’d basically just need to heat everything thru. I’m guessing 30 minutes or so? Will you be reheating it in a casserole dish or cake pan? Probably the thinner it is in the pan, the less amount of time it will need. Be sure to come back and let me know how long it took you to reheat! 🙂
Really good dish! Made this tonight and we really liked it.
Thanks for the review Melissa! 🙂
I have made this several times and my family loves it!!! Even my picky 10 year old. When I make it I have doubled the sauce ingredients and added cooked cauliflower rice with 2 cans of canned chicken breast and the broccoli. Soooo yummy!!!!
Nice Megan! I too love the addition of cauli rice! And the canned chicken breast is a great time saver idea! Thanks for sharing your review and tips!
Delicious! Easy to prepare. I used Costco boned rotisserie white meat chicken, Kirkland bacon crumbles, Tillamook shredded medium cheddar, Hidden Valley Ranch powdered seasoning (big jar at Costco). These ready-made ingredients really cut the prep time! This dish was so flavorful and satisfying. Thank you for posting the recipe!
YES!! Great hacks!! I also love using the frozen broccoli from Costco too! 🙂
Can I make this the night before and then bake the next night?
I don’t see why not! As long as your broccoli isn’t cooked up on prep night (unless you like super soft/mushy broccoli. 🙂
I love the fact everything is cooked in one pan! The sauce is very much how I make my Keto cauliflower cheese, you cannot beat chicken and bacon together! Sim x
This was good. Unfortunately too high in calories for me to have. Had to have a half serving as one serving was almost 600 calories for me
Hoe is this only 6 carbs? Mine came out to 19.5 carbs
Soupy mess. Will not make again. Followed recipe 🤷♀️
Sorry it didn’t work out well for you!
