Toasted Coconut Chocolate Clusters in the Air Fryer
Air Fryer Toasted Coconut Chocolate Clusters
Make these Fun Bunny Droppings Easter Treats in the Air Fryer
If you need a quick dessert that is funny, easy, and actually delicious, these Air Fryer Toasted Coconut Chocolate Clusters are such a fun one to make. We make them year round, but around Easter, we love calling them Bunny Droppings because the name always gets a laugh, but the flavor is what makes people come back for more.
This recipe is especially nice because it uses just a couple of simple ingredients and comes together fast. The toasted coconut adds crunch and deep flavor, while the melty chocolate helps hold everything together into little clusters. They are somewhere between a candy bite, a dessert snack, and a holiday treat.
They are also great when you do not want to heat up the oven for a tiny batch. Make a few for a sweet craving, double the batch for Easter weekend, or freeze extras for later.
Why You’ll Love These Clusters
There are a lot of Easter desserts out there, but this one checks a few especially helpful boxes. First, it is fast. Second, it is simple. Third, it works beautifully for both a silly seasonal treat and an evergreen coconut chocolate snack recipe.
- Only 2 main ingredients
- Quick air fryer dessert with very little prep
- Easy to customize with different chocolate types
- Great for Easter as Bunny Droppings or bunny tail-style treats
- Small batch friendly when you do not want a huge dessert
Ingredients and Supplies You’ll Need
Ingredients
- Coconut flakes
- Chocolate chips
Supplies
- Small mixing bowl
- Tin foil or air fryer parchment paper
- Silicone spatula
- Air fryer (we tested this in the Cosori II and the Typhur Sync)
What Kind of Coconut to Use
As long as you are using coconut flakes, you have some flexibility here. Unsweetened coconut flakes are a nice option if you want a less sweet, more coconut-forward bite. Sweetened coconut flakes will make the clusters a little more candy-like and dessert-style.
If you are deciding between the two, think about the chocolate you plan to use. Dark chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate pairs especially well with sweetened coconut, while milk chocolate often works better with unsweetened coconut to keep the finished clusters from becoming overly sweet.
Types of Chocolate Chips to Use
This recipe was tested with semi-sweet chocolate chips, but you have options.
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips: best all-around balance
- Dark chocolate chips: richer and less sweet
- Milk chocolate chips: sweeter and more kid-friendly
- White chocolate chips: fun for a different Easter twist
If you are making these specifically for Easter, white chocolate with pastel sprinkles or mini candy eggs could be a fun variation to add before chilling.

How to Make Air Fryer Toasted Coconut Chocolate Clusters
Step 1: Mix the ingredients
Begin by mixing the chocolate chips and coconut flakes together in a bowl.
Step 2: Prep the basket and cook
Add a sheet of tin foil or parchment paper to the bottom of the air fryer basket. Place the coconut and chocolate chip mixture in a single layer on top.
Air fry for 3 minutes at 300°F.
Step 3: Stir and cook again
Using a silicone spatula, gently stir the chocolate chips into the toasted coconut. If you want a more chocolate-heavy cluster, you can add a few extra chocolate chips here.
Spread the mixture back out into a single layer and air fry for an additional 1 to 2 minutes.
Step 4: Cool and shape the clusters
Carefully remove the foil or parchment from the air fryer basket and stir the coconut chocolate mixture once more. Let it cool slightly, then form into 3 or 4 small clusters. A cookie scoop helps here.
The mixture will not stick together perfectly while still warm, so just press and shape it as best you can. Then place the clusters in the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes until hardened.
More Ways to Shape the Coconut Treats
If you want a neater shape, place the warm mixture into cupcake liners or mini cupcake liners before chilling. You can also refrigerate them for about an hour if you prefer not to use the freezer.
For Easter, these are fun served in a little bowl as Bunny Droppings, tucked into cupcake liners, or added to dessert trays with pastel candies.
FAQs
Can I use sweetened coconut?
Yes. Sweetened coconut works fine and will make the clusters sweeter and more candy-like.
Can I make these ahead of time?
Yes. These are a good make-ahead Easter treat. Store them chilled so they stay firm.
Are these more like cookies or candy?
They are closer to a candy cluster than a cookie. The texture is lightly crisp, toasty, and a little crunchy.
Can I double the recipe?
Yes, just work in batches if needed so the mixture can stay in a fairly even layer in the air fryer basket.

Air Fryer Toasted Coconut Chocolate Treats
Equipment
- Tin foil or parchment paper
- Silicon spatula
Ingredients
- ½ cup Coconut flakes (sweetened or unsweetened - whichever you prefer / I did sweetened)
- 1/4-1/2 cup Chocolate chips (which ever flavor you prefer - depends on how sweet or rich you want your treat to be / I did semi-sweet)
Instructions
- Mix ingredients together in a bowl. Start with 1/4 cup of chocolate chips.
- Add a sheet of tin foil to the bottom of the air fryer basket. (If you don't like cooking with tin foil you can also use parchment paper without holes)
- Place the coconut chocolate chips mixture in a single layer on top of the tin foil.
- Air fry for 3 minutes at 300 °F.
- With a silicone spatula, gently mix the chocolate chips into the toasted coconut. Add more chocolate chips if desired (if you like more chocolate than coconut)
- Then brush back out to single layer and air fry for an additional 1-2 minutes.
- Carefully remove tin foil sheet from air fryer basket. Mix contents around again.
- Let cool slightly. Then, form into three or four balls. The chocolate and coconut wont stick together super well so do your best here. I keep the mixture on the tin foil and just kinda mesh them together. Then place the balls (I keep mine on the tin foil) in the freezer for 10-15 minutes until hardened. Remove and enjoy!
