Better than Takeout: Juicy Hibachi-Style Chicken & Veggies with Homemade Yum Yum Sauce
Today, I’m showing you how to make air fryer hibachi chicken and vegetables the fast, easy way. Bite-size chicken, zucchini, onions, and mushrooms cook in one basket and get finished with creamy yum yum sauce. This is one of Cathy’s very favorite air fryer recipes ever—her family requests it all the time.
Prefer dark meat? Use boneless chicken thighs for extra juiciness. They typically need an additional 3–5 minutes depending on thickness—always verify 165°F/74°C internal temp.
In the U.S., “hibachi” often refers to a tabletop griddle (technically teppanyaki). Learn more about Hibachi cooking from Food Network.

Loved this recipe! Zucchini is out on our diet, so I substituted a bag of frozen cauliflower and broccoli. I thawed it first. and patted it dry. This is an easy “1-basket meal” and the Yum Yum sauce made a big hit.
YES! So glad you enjoyed it! Way to modify too! 🙂
Absolutely delicious. Made minor substitutions due to diet. Used chicken tenders, bag of frozen broccoli and cauliflower, coconut aminos instead of soy. And the Yum Yum sauce is really yum yum. Passed recipe to a friend.
Thanks, June! So glad you were able to make this recipe work for you!
We loved this recipe so much that I made it twice this week and shared it with some friends ❤️
Thank you for the review, Renee! I’m so glad you loved it!
This was the very first recipe I made in my very first air fryer. It was an absolute hit! I did not use onion because it does not agree with me. We all decided pineapple would be added next time as we love grilled pineapple. I served with white rice and some store bought sushi. All of our plates were empty and our bellies full. Guess what lunch is tomorrow 😁
Hi Daphne — Thanks for the feedback, and for those ideas. Pineapple sounds like a fantastic addition. Enjoy lunch — leftovers are the bomb.
Looks good. Can you use boneless skinless thighs instead of breasts?
You sure can. You may have to adjust the time a bit.
Amazing meal. Followed the instructions completely and it turned out so delicious! Ended up cooking the full 15 min on the ninja foodi, after I removed the food from the basket I also poured over the liquid from the bottom of the pan on top. We ended up having using roughly half of the sauce, which wasn’t a problem because we had the ingredients to just make another batch of food, though next time I’ll just half the sauce. Thank you for the recipe!
Thanks for the great review, Muz. I am so glad this one turned out great for you!
Really amazing recipe and so easy.

Yay! So glad everyone loved it, Amanda!
