Can you make fritters in the air fryer?
Usually when I think of apple fritters, its a long, complicated process that isn’t really worth it- which is why I have never made these before.
However, apple fritters in the air fryer are so simple! You only need three ingredients. For this recipe, you need:
Ingredients
- 1 package of Pillsbury french bread dough
- ½ can of apple pie filling (about ⅔ cup)
- 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
You will also need an air fryer safe oil, such as avocado oil in a Misto sprayer (check out this post to learn more about why you need this air fryer accessory) and some flour to simplify your baking process.
How to Make Air Fryer Apple Fritters
You can have this recipe prepped and ready for the air fryer in 5 minutes.
Step 1. Prepare the dough
First, unpackage the dough and cut it into bite size pieces using a bench scraper. The pieces don’t need to be perfect; they can be as large or as small as you want.
Keep the dough on the cutting board and add the apple pie filling and the cinnamon to the dough. Mix it all together using the bench scraper. If your dough is super wet, add some flour.
Step 2. Form a log
Next, form the dough mixture into a log. You will want to sprinkle flour onto your surface to do this. It’s okay to be liberal with your flour.
Once the dough is formed into a log, cut it into 8 portions.
How to Cook Apple Fritters in the Air Fryer
Preheat your air fryer for 5 minutes at 400°F or 200°C.
When the dough is portioned and the air fryer is preheated, place a piece of parchment paper inside the air fryer basket and spray the bottom of the air fryer basket.
Place the fritters inside the air fryer basket. Remember to not overcrowd the basket.
Spray the tops of the fritters with avocado oil. Then cook in the air fryer for 12 minutes at 350°F or 175°C
At the 9 minute mark, flip the fritters to brown the bottoms.
How to Make Brown Butter Glaze for Air Fryer Fritters
If you choose to top off the air fryer apple fritters with a delicious brown butter glaze, you need to try this amazing brown butter glaze from Wine a Little, Cook a Lot. I love this recipe because it’s so simple, but tastes amazing. For the glaze, you need:
- ¼ cup butter (or ½ a stick)
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
- 1 tablespoon cream or milk
- 1 cup powdered sugar
First, place the butter in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Continuing melting the butter until it starts to foam and turn brown. Once browned, remove from heat to cool slightly. You should smell a nutty aroma and see brown specks in the butter.
Then, add powdered sugar to a small bowl. Add browned butter, milk and vanilla whisking until smooth. (If the mixture is too thin for your liking, simply add more powdered sugar.) Set aside.
If the mixture is too thick, add hot water until it reaches desired consistency.
When your fritters finish cooking, carefully dip the tops in the glaze and place them on a cooling rack. Let the glaze drip down. Once cooled, enjoy these delicious and simple air fryer apple fritters!
Final Thoughts
Every time I make this recipe, I am always so impressed with how easy it is. This is just one of the many reasons why I love using my air fryer! This recipe is perfect for breakfast or dessert. It is fun way to celebrate the fall and Thanksgiving season.

how do you get the cut pieces together with the filling to form a log to cut? I am confused.
are you basically just scooping small pieces into the air fryer?
how do they stay together?
also do you have a video i can watch on this?
also video for the enchiladas as well?

Hi Karen! It is a little tricky, but the good news is, I do have a video! It is the second recipe in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aynreZoyoFI&t=255s
