10 Free Summer Activities for Kids and Families in Your Community
Summer will be here before we know it! I’m always on the lookout for fun activities for my kids to do to beat summer boredom. Check out some of these fun and free summer activities!
1. Summer programs at your local library
With COVID restrictions easing up, check in with your local library to see what they have happening this summer! Most libraries offer summer reading programs, along with other games and activities.
2. Summer activities at the park
Many community parks have free and fun activities happening all summer long! One of our family favorites is attending the outdoor movie nights. Make a quick search on Google to see what your local communities are doing and make a plan to participate.
3. Geocaching
If your kids love nature, exploring, and treasure hunts, go geocaching this summer! Check out this awesome guide on everything you need to know about geocaching with kids!
4. Free Bowling for Kids
In many communities, local bowling alleys offer 2 free games of bowling every day for kids. Check out this website, kidsbowlfree.com, to see if your community is participating in free bowling for kids this summer!
5. $2 Regal Family Movies at the Theater
Enjoy a cheap, family friendly movie this summer with your kids. Check out the Regal Summer Movie Program to see what movies will be showing at a participating theater near you!
6. Summer Food Service Program
Occasionally, during the summer, my kids and I like to stop by one of the participating schools in our community to get a free lunch. This is a fun activity for when you want to get out of the house and enjoy something free!
7. Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program
If you have a Barnes & Noble near you, then you and your kids (grades 1-6) will want to participate in their summer reading program to get a free book! Click HERE to learn more!

9. Walk and Talk
Walk and Talk is a free program that gets you active as a family. Walk a mile with your child and talk about a new topic each day. Research shows that children are sometimes more comfortable connecting when they’re engaged in activities with you, like coloring, cooking, or exercising. 10. Volunteer Work with Kids That Do Good
Kids That Do Good is an online resources for kids, and their families, to get involved with existing charities as well as create their own ways to give back. This is a fun and free way for your kids to get outside and get involved!
