The best tips for making easy air fryer french toast sticks:

The trick to get the best results with air fryer french toast is to dry out your bread a little bit before dipping the sticks into the egg/milk mixture, so that your french toast isn’t soggy at the end. You do this by placing a single layer into the air fryer and cook for 2 minutes at 350 degrees F or 177 degrees C.

For easy clean up you can use air fryer parchment paper to line the bottom of the air fryer to avoid the egg mixture dipping down as much.

Types of milk to use for this air fryer breakfast recipe:

While we love using whole milk for this recipe, here is a list of other options to try to either change the flavor or to accommodate a certain diet:

  • Almond milk
  • Heavy cream
  • Oat milk
  • Fairlife milk (great way to add in more protein)

Freeze for later!

If you want to make up a few batches of these air fryer french toast sticks, you can always dip the bread into the egg mixture and then lay them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and put them in the freezer.

Once they have completely frozen, you can move them to an airtight container or freezer bag and store them in the freezer for later.

How to make Air Fryer French Toast Sticks:

Step 1: Make egg mixture

Combine all of the ingredients together except the bread in a large bowl and mix it all together until you get what might look a little like a runny custard.

Step 2: Dip slices of bread

After making up the egg mixture, begin dipping your bread sticks in the egg mixture, you’ll want to place the sticks in a single layer in the air fryer basket. I was able to get 10 in my Cosori.

Step 3: Bake French toast sticks

Bake the French toast at 350 degrees F to 176 degrees C for 8 minutes, flipping halfway through.

If you want your sticks to be more crispy, cook for an extra minute or two.

It’s important to keep an eye on the sticks while cooking because the time it takes will depend on your air fryer and how thick your great is. Mine were perfect after 8 minutes!

Step 4: Optional topping

After the french toast sticks are done cooking in the air fryer, you can make up a cinnamon-sugar mixture and sprinkle it on right after removing it from the air fryer.

Instructions

  • Cut your bread into thirds and place sticks in a single layer in the air fryer at 350˚F/177˚C for 2 minutes. This will dry your bread out just enough so that you won’t have soggy bread sticks.
  • While your bread is in the air fryer, make your french toast mixture; pour milk and butter into a microwave safe bowl. Place in the microwave for 1-2 minutes until the butter is melted and the milk is nice and warm, you don’t want it too hot
  • Add 3 egg yolks and mix together with an immersion blender, fork, or whisk. Because I used my immersion blender, I put my mixture in a 4-cup measuring cup to safely mix
  • Mix in vanilla, cinnamon, and brown sugar
  • Pour mixture into a shallow glass dish
  • Grab your bread sticks, place into batter and flip around
  • Place in a single layer into air fryer
  • Sprinkle more cinnamon and sugar if desired
  • Cook at 350˚F/177˚C for 8 minutes, flipping the sticks halfway through.
  • If you want your french toast sticks to be more crispy, cook for an extra minute or two
  • Serve with your favorite toppings!

Recipe Notes

Thick sliced bread is key with this recipe. Otherwise regular cut sandwich bread will result in super soggy or super crispy french toast sticks.
