Family Movie Night Movie Ideas In December

Happy December! ❄️ As the weather cools and the holiday spirit warms up, settle in with one of these great family-friendly movies and series coming to Amazon Prime Video this month.

• Oh. What. Fun – Holiday Comedy: Stars Michelle Pfeiffer as a family matriarch who gets accidentally “Home Alone-d” and goes on her own festive adventure. Great for laughs and a bit of holiday chaos!
• The Merchants of Joy (Prime Original) – Holiday Documentary: Follows five families in New York City who sell Christmas trees on the sidewalk every year. A heartwarming look at a holiday tradition.
• Merv (Prime Original) December 10 – Romantic Comedy/Dog Movie: Features Zooey Deschanel and Charlie Cox as exes forced to co-parent their heartbroken dog, Merv. A good choice for families who love dogs and lighthearted romance.
• Red One  – Action/Comedy/Holiday. This major film starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans is an action-packed holiday mission where the North Pole’s head of security must team up with a bounty hunter to save a kidnapped Santa Claus. It was a major release last year and is a popular choice this holiday season.
• Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) – The live-action adaptation starring Jim Carrey is a top holiday choice.

• A Christmas Carol (1984) – This is often part of the rotation on free services in December. The 1984 version is a classic, family-friendly adaptation of the Dickens story.
• Matilda (1996) – The beloved movie based on the Roald Dahl book often joins the free lineup for the holidays. A great choice for kids who love a bit of magic and mischief.
• Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events – This title is listed as coming to Pluto TV’s free lineup in December 2025. It’s a dark comedy/adventure that is a great pick for older kids and teens.
