Dutch Oven Peach Cobbler Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 15-oz cans of peaches in juice - drain one can
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- ½ can of Sprite 6 ounces
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 5 quart/10" dutch oven
Instructions
- Heat coals on the fire.
- In a 5 quart dutch oven add peaches (and the juice from 2 of the 3 cans), then pour the cake mix powder and spread over peaches
- Pour Sprite over the dry cake mix and lightly mix together over the peaches. Once all powder is moist, put pats of butter evenly over the top of the mixture. This will give the cobbler a nice golden brown top.
- Move dutch oven to 19 hot coals. 6 briquettes on the bottom and 13 on top (for 10" dutch oven) - this will give you about 320 degrees.
- Cook for 45-60 minutes (check every 5 minutes after 45 minutes to ensure cobbler is cooked to the consistency you want)
Could you put the Dutch oven in a regular oven at home instead of over the charcoal? If so, what would the temperature and cooking time be?
You would cook it in the oven at 320 for 45 minutes.
What kind of cake mix is used?
Hi Gladys! I prefer the yellow cake mix, but white will work too!
Do you preheat dutch oven? Thankyou.💕
Your Dutch Oven will be hot from melting the butter, I like to add brown sugar, while melting the the butter, blend well, add peaches stir together, sprinkle cake mix in top, so not stir, then add Sprite over the top of cake mix, so not stir. Place on coals, magic it is.
Thanks for sharing how you like to do it Douglas!
Made this with strawberry cake mix and it came out amazing!!!
Oh nice variation! Did you use store bought canned peaches?
If you don’t have a Dutch oven can you use foil?
This peach cobbler recipe is amazing! I love that it is so frugal and easy to make.
