The Best Dutch Oven Spaghetti

I am sharing another one of my favorite camping recipes for all of you Fabuless campers out there. Introducing Dutch Oven Spaghetti, also referred to as Goulash. This camping dinner recipe is really filling after a long day of hiking. As someone who has cooked for many hiking trips, this is one of my go-to meals. It’s definitely one of the best dutch oven pasta recipes out there!

I first learned this recipe from my friend Ryan, who is super experienced at cooking over a campfire and dutch oven cooking. This particular recipe feeds about 20 people, but you can modify it to feed less if you cook in a smaller dutch oven. You can also modify it to make more if you cook it in a 16-inch dutch oven. It’s really easy to modify!

To make this recipe even easier while camping I have included a few preparation things you can do at home that will really simplify and speed up the process for making this meal.

Dutch Oven Spaghetti Recipe (Great For Camping)

Serves: 20

Ingredients

  • Supplies you will need:

  • 14 inch dutch oven
  • 28 charcoals
  • Tongs to move hot coals
  • mixing and serving spoon
  • Charcoal Lighter Basket
  • Dutch Oven Lid Lifter
  • Ingredients needed:

  • 2 lbs pasta al dente (we use elbow macaroni)
  • 3 cans 15 oz stewed tomatoes
  • 2 lbs hamburger
  • 1 quart spaghetti sauce
  • 1 lb cheese

Instructions

  1. Before you leave home for camp, cook your macaroni al dente and pre-cook your hamburger.
  2. Heat coals on the fire.
  3. In a 14 inch dutch oven add all ingredients except cheese and mix together. Move dutch oven to 11 hot coals in a checkerboard pattern.
  4. Cover oven and put 17 hot coals on top. This will give you about 320 degrees.
  5. Cook 30 minutes. Remove lid and add cheese mix in and cover for 10 more minutes. After 10 minutes remove lid and sprinkle on more cheese before serving.
  6. Serve with salad and bread.
