Easy Air Fryer Cream Cheese Danishes (With Puff Pastry!)

Craving a sweet, flaky pastry without the hassle of making dough from scratch? Say hello to these easy puff pastry Danishes—perfect for a cozy breakfast, a brunch treat, or a quick dessert.

Looking for an easy air fryer danish? This recipe shows you how to make classic cream cheese Danishes in the air fryer using store-bought puff pastry. Puff pastry is one of the most reliable options for homemade air fryer danishes because it cooks evenly, puffs beautifully, and gives you that flaky, bakery-style texture—without yeast or long rise times.

Does Puff Pastry Work in the Air Fryer?

danishes in the air fryer

Puff pastry is perfect for the air fryer because the hot, circulating air creates a crisp, golden-brown exterior while keeping the inside layers light and flaky. The quick cook time helps the pastry rise beautifully, giving it that signature “puff” without needing to preheat an oven or worry about uneven heat.

Puff pastry recipes in the air fryer make great finger foods for a Super Bowl party, a Valentine’s Day sweet treat, or a tasty Christmas morning breakfast.

What Dough Works Best for Air Fryer Danishes?

You can make air fryer Danishes using crescent dough or biscuit dough, but puff pastry delivers the flakiest layers and the most “bakery-style” result. Crescent dough tends to bake up softer and more bread-like, while puff pastry creates crisp, buttery layers that feel closest to a traditional danish.

If you want a helpful refresher on handling and thawing puff pastry (so it bakes up flaky instead of sticky), this guide from King Arthur Baking is a solid, trustworthy resource.

Ingredients and Supplies to Make Puff Pastry Danish in the Air Fryer

The recipe I’m sharing today is a jam + cream cheese filling. I love raspberry jam, but feel free to swap in any favorite flavor (or even pie filling).

Ingredients

  • Cream cheese
  • Sugar
  • All-purpose flour
  • Vanilla extract
  • Large egg yolk
  • Your favorite jam
  • Egg wash (1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp water)

Ingredient Variations and Substitutions

  • Healthier Version – swap the sugar for honey and add a squeeze of lemon juice.
  • Starbucks Copycat – omit the jam for a simpler creamy danish.
  • Pie Filling – swap the jam for cherry pie filling (or blueberry, apple, etc.).
  • Toppings – dust with cinnamon or powdered sugar for a pretty finish.

Supplies

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Spoons
  • Air fryer
  • Pastry brush

How to Make the Perfect Puff Pastry Danishes in the Air Fryer

puff pastry pieces ready to assemble danishes for the air fryer

Step 1: Prepare the Pastry

I used 1 package (17.3 oz) of frozen puff pastry for this recipe. Make sure it’s thawed—this makes assembly much easier and helps it cook more evenly in the air fryer too. Once thawed, cut the pastry into about 9 equal rectangles.

Step 2: Fill the Pastry

Place the cream cheese in a small bowl and microwave just long enough to soften it. Top each pastry with a spoonful (about 1 tablespoon) of the cream cheese mixture and 1 rounded teaspoon of jam.

Take one corner of the pastry and bring it to the middle. Brush a little egg wash on the corner and seal it with the opposite corner of the pastry. Brush more egg wash on top of the pastry.

Step 3: Air Fry

Lightly spray the air fryer basket with avocado oil. Place the pastries inside, making sure there is space between each one. Cook the Danishes at 320°F/160°C for 8 minutes (or until golden brown). You do not need to flip this recipe!

Let them cool for a few minutes. If you’d like, dust with powdered sugar or cinnamon for extra “bakery case” vibes.

How to Reheat Puff Pastry in the Air Fryer

These Danishes are best warm and crispy, but the buttery, flaky layers and sweet filling still taste great at room temperature or straight from the fridge. They also make a quick grab-and-go snack—just know the pastry won’t be quite as crisp unless you reheat it.

The air fryer is the best way to reheat leftover puff pastry Danishes and bring back that crispy texture:

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place the Danishes in the basket with a little space between them.
  3. Heat for 3–5 minutes until warmed through and crisp again. (Watch closely so they don’t over-brown.)

  • These are so easy and SOOOOOOO delicious

  • CAN YOU MAKE A CHICKEN WRAP WITH THIS IDEA?

  • Cathy, I’m leaving you a five star review because I think you’re great but this recipe was a disaster for me. I cut the puff pastry into nine pieces, but I could barely fit the cream cheese and jam on it so they didn’t close at all. I tried cooking them at that temperature which you didn’t say if it was supposed to be air fryer or bake. They didn’t get cooked inside, the dough didn’t really rise or make a flaky anything. I had to put them back in three times and they still don’t look right and they don’t taste right. I double checked the box to make sure that it was the 17.3 ounce and I had two sheets. I just don’t understand what I did wrong? Is there any thoughts?

    • Emilee - Fabulessly Frugal

Hi Laura, sorry the pastries didn’t work out for you! I have a few thoughts on why the dough didn’t rise: pastry dough (like pie crust) needs to be chilled before baking. So, perhaps the puff pastry was too warm when it was put in the air fryer. If it’s on the counter for long, it might need to be chilled again before baking. I would also try using less filling as that could be why the middle didn’t cook and you weren’t able to close the pastry shut.
