Does Puff Pastry Work in the Air Fryer?
Puff pastries are perfect for the air fryer because the hot, circulating air creates a crispy, golden-brown exterior while keeping the layers light and flaky. The quick cooking time in the air fryer helps the puff pastry rise beautifully, giving it that signature puff without needing to preheat an oven or worrying about uneven heat.
Puff pastry recipes in the air fryer make great finger foods for a Super Bowl party, a Valentine’s Day sweet treat, or a tasty Christmas morning breakfast.

How to Make the Perfect Puff Pastry Danishes in the Air Fryer
Step 1: Prepare the Pastry
I used 1 package (17.3 oz) of frozen puff pastry for this recipe. You will want to make sure that it is thawed. This will make the assembly process a lot easier. And it will cook better in the air fryer, too. Once thawed, cut the pastry into about 9 equal rectangles.
Step 2: Fill the Pastry
Place the cream cheese in a small bowl and microwave just long enough to soften it. Top each pastry with a spoonful (about 1 tablespoon) of the cream cheese mixture and 1 rounded teaspoon of jam.
Take one corner of the pastry and bring it to the middle. Brush a little bit of the egg wash on the corner and seal it with the opposite corner of the pastry. Brush some more egg wash on top of the pastry.
Step 3: Air Fry
Lightly spray the air fryer basket with avocado oil. Place the pastries inside, making sure there is space between each one. Cook the Danishes at 320°F/160°C for 8 minutes or until they are beautiful and golden. You do not need to flip this recipe!
Allow them to cool for a few minutes. If you’d like, dust them with powdered sugar or cinnamon for more appeal.
How to Reheat Puff Pastry in the Air Fryer
While these danishes are best enjoyed warm and crispy, the buttery, flaky layers and sweet filling still taste great at room temperature or straight from the fridge. You can even enjoy them as a quick grab-and-go snack. Just keep in mind that the texture won’t be quite as crispy as when they’re freshly heated.
The air fryer is a great option to reheat leftover puff pastry Danishes and keep them crispy and delicious. Here’s how:
- Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Place the Danishes in the air fryer basket, leaving a little space between them.
- Heat for 3-5 minutes until they’re warm and the pastry is crisp again. Keep an eye on them to avoid overbaking.

I’m sure you’ll fall in love with these pastries just like my family has! They’re light, buttery, and irresistibly creamy, yet so easy to make. No oven is required for these homemade delights!

CAN YOU MAKE A CHICKEN WRAP WITH THIS IDEA?
Cathy, I’m leaving you a five star review because I think you’re great but this recipe was a disaster for me. I cut the puff pastry into nine pieces, but I could barely fit the cream cheese and jam on it so they didn’t close at all. I tried cooking them at that temperature which you didn’t say if it was supposed to be air fryer or bake. They didn’t get cooked inside, the dough didn’t really rise or make a flaky anything. I had to put them back in three times and they still don’t look right and they don’t taste right. I double checked the box to make sure that it was the 17.3 ounce and I had two sheets. I just don’t understand what I did wrong? Is there any thoughts?
Hi Laura, sorry the pastries didn’t work out for you! I have a few thoughts on why the dough didn’t rise: pastry dough (like pie crust) needs to be chilled before baking. So, perhaps the puff pastry was too warm when it was put in the air fryer. If it’s on the counter for long, it might need to be chilled again before baking. I would also try using less filling as that could be why the middle didn’t cook and you weren’t able to close the pastry shut.
