Quick and Healthy Tilapia in the Air Fryer
Quick and Easy Tilapia in the Air Fryer
My sister-in-law shared this recipe with me and I am excited for you to try it too! We aren’t big fish eaters in my family, but I know this one is a hit because my teenagers loved it! You can watch all the drama of getting one of my teenagers to eat it in this YouTube video.
Stick with me and I will show you how to make some amazing, quick-and-easy tilapia in the air fryer! You will love this recipe because not only is it fast and healthy, but it’s also super crispy and delicately flakey.
3-ingredient Air Fryer Tilapia
You will also love this recipe because you only need 3 ingredients! You will need:
- 1 pound of tilapia
- 2 eggs
- 1 package Louisiana fish fry
The first thing you need to do is prepare your ingredients. First, wash and pat dry the tilapia. You want to make sure it is dry because then it will be able to fry properly in the air fryer. Next, in a shallow bowl that is big enough to fit the tilapia, whisk two eggs. Then, in a third shallow bowl or plate, pour out the package of the Louisiana fish fry. You may not need all of it. So pour out however much you think you need. If you need more while you are preparing the fish, you can easily pour more onto the plate.
How to Make Tilapia in the Air Fryer
Once your ingredients are prepared, you are ready to fry the fish! You are going to love how quick and easy this process is.
1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F for 5 minutes.
2. Place the tilapia in the eggs. Be sure to cover both sides.
3. Place the tilapia in the fish fry, once again covering both sides of the fish with the fish fry.
4. Spray the air fryer with oil. Place the fish in the air fryer basket.
5. Spray the fish with oil and cook at 350°F/177°C for 8 minutes.
Once your fish finishes cooking, with an instant read thermometer, make sure the fish registers at 145°F/63°C before eating.

Omg, your teenage son, in the talapia you tube video, sounds just like my son about😄
😂 I’m glad I’m not the only one.
Delicious! Just had some for dinner-for-lunch. Question – what might help to get them a bit crispier without overcooking? I’m using a big Cosori like yours since I copy you.. LOL I didn’t flip halfway through but you didn’t mention it. (I didn’t use a liner on the bottom.) Can too much oil cause less crispiness? I can have a heavy hand. Thanks!
Good question, Beth. Try cooking it for 5 minutes at 350F, then 2-3 more minutes at 400F. Hopefully that will help it be a little more crispy. 😊 Let me know if that works or not!
This was soooooooo good! Thank you!
We are so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the rating, Marla.
I really like to try your Healthy Tilapia fish recipe in the air fryer but I can not find “Fish Fry” here.
Would you have a breading mixture that you have tried and liked for breading the fish?
Matt sends..
Hey, Matt. I haven’t tried a breading mixture for this recipe, so I am unsure. You could do a quick Google search for some substitute ideas. For example, here is one that I found that might work? https://makingmyabode.com/the-best-fish-fry-breading-recipe-you-will-ever-try/
