What candy can you air fry? Most chocolate treats will be great. But if you put chocolate straight in the air fryer, it would melt everywhere. Let me give you some tips for gooey, melty candy that is fun to eat and doesn’t make a mess! You only need 2 ingredients to make air fryer-fried candy.

- Twix

Crescent roll dough substitutions
Crescent roll dough is how I’ve made air fryer candy. But you can also try these doughs:
- Puff pastry sheets
- Pie crust
- Biscuit dough
- Pizza dough
- Sugar cookie dough
Note: No matter what kind of dough you use, remember to roll it thin and seal it tight to keep the candy inside. Be mindful of the different flavor profiles the dough may add. You may also need to adjust the cooking time.
Supplies
- Air fryer
- Rolling pin
- Pizza cutter
Can You Air Fry Skittles? What Candy NOT to Air Fry:
Skittles, Twizzlers, Starburst, and gummy bears have a chewy texture and high sugar content. They will likely become a sticky mess, even when wrapped in dough because they don’t melt evenly like chocolate.
I do not recommend Skittles or any chewy or hard candy because it may burn and liquefy inside the dough, resulting in a crunchy bite that doesn’t go well with a soft crescent roll outside layer.
How to Air Fry Candy
This recipe is so awesome because you can enjoy the taste of deep-fried candy that you would find at the fair or rodeo but for half the cost and no mess of deep frying! It is so easy to air fry any chocolate candy.
Step 1. Freeze the candy
Place the candy you are using in the freezer for about 15-30 minutes. The candy’s cold state helps it not get too melty and leak out of the dough while the dough is cooking in the hot air fryer.
Step 2. Prepare the crescent dough
Roll out the crescent roll dough to about ⅛-¼ inch thick, then cut it in half. Place the candy morsels on one half of the crescent roll dough. I got about 9 candies, evenly spaced, on the crescent dough.
Then, place the other half of the dough directly on the candies.
Step 3. Make the bites
Take a pizza cutter and cut around each of the candy morsels. Once cut, pinch together the sides of the dough. Sealing the dough will ensure that no chocolate leaks out during air frying.
Step 4. Air fry
The dough already has plenty of oil, so there’s no need to spray the air fryer basket or the dough!
Place the wrapped candies in the air fryer basket. Space them apart so they can cook evenly. Air fry at 350°F (175° C) for 5 minutes or until the crescent dough is golden brown and crispy.
Note: You may need to cook in batches, depending on how big your air fryer basket is and how big your candy morsels are.
Remove the candies from the air fryer and allow to cool and set for a few minutes. If you’d like, dust the candies with powdered sugar or a cinnamon sugar mixture for extra sweet goodness!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I air-fry a full-size candy bar?
I haven’t personally tried this recipe with a full-size candy bar. I imagine candy bar bites or cutting the candy bar in half will work best. However, if you air fry a full-sized candy bar, try lowering the temperature a bit and adding a couple of minutes to the cooking time because it may take longer to cook all that dough.
Can you dehydrate candy in the air fryer?
An air fryer has higher heat and faster air circulation than a dehydrator. Because of this, candies will melt in the air fryer before dehydrating. If your air fryer can go as low as 135°F (57°C), you can try dehydrating the candy bites for a longer period of time.
To dehydrate food in the air fryer, try thinly sliced fruits such as strawberries or these delicious apple chips. No sticky, melty mess!
Can I make this recipe in the oven?
If you use the whole crescent roll can, you’ll need to air fry in batches. Or you can cook them in the oven! Cooking candy in the oven is still better than deep frying because little oil is required. To cook candy in the oven:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°F).
- Prepare the candy bar as described above. Freeze it, wrap it in dough, and seal it.
- Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and bake for 12-15 minutes.
