Make Dad Cinnamon Roasted Pecans for Father’s Day!

candied roasted pecans

Every time we go to a major event center (aka Boise State Basketball games, concerts and the Idaho Center, Woman’s week at the Marriott Center)  it seems like they have roasted nuts. The cinnamon and sugar aroma permeates the event center and I can not help but go and get me some cinnamon roasted nuts.

I think roasted nuts would be a fun “special event” Father’s Day Gift. You can package them up super cute in a gift tin, gift box or gift bag and give them to your special Dad.

Cinnamon Roasted Pecans

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Pecans
  • 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup White Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoon Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1/2 Cup Water

Instructions

  1. 1. Chop up two cups of nuts. Pecans or Almonds.
  2. 2. In a medium pan combine sugars, butter, cinnamon and salt over medium heat.
  3. 3. Add water and bring to a boil, let boil for 1-2 minutes.
  4. 4. Add vanilla and nuts and stir together.
  5. 5. Pour nuts out in a cookie sheet or jelly roll pan. To keep nuts from sticking to the pan use a silpat on the pan.
  6. 6. Broil nuts in the oven on low heat stirring constantly until the sugar hardens and is no longer sticky.

I bought my pecan nuts from Vitacost. But you could also get some from amazon or your local store. This recipes is good with pecans and almonds

brown sugar and butter

Some roasted  nut recipes only call for white sugar, but I thought it would be fantastic to do both brown and white sugar and it WAS!candied pecans on silpat

The raw nuts were pretty sticky when you take them out of the sugar mixture so my silpat was the perfect surface to put them on to keep them from sticking to my baking sheet.

I’m so excited about the pecan roasted cinnamon recipe, have not made any yet,but soon. thanks.

  3. Great recipe! I’d love to make these for my Dad, but he lives back in cold Wisconsin and I’m in sunny Florida now. How long are they “good” for? Could I send them in the mail and have them survive the trip?

  4. Sarah S. says:

Yum! This sounds delicious! Would you change the recipe in any way if I wanted to use pecan halves? I’d rather not chop them if I didn’t have to.

    • Nope. I do not think you need to change a thing if you want to use pecan halves. I like to cut up my nuts for my salads.

  5. In step 6 it says to stir constantly while it’s in the oven. Do you really do that? Or just leave them in for a few minutes, then remove and stir? Thanks for the great recipe!

    • Lynde-

I am glad to hear you are excited about my recipe.

I keep them in the oven with the door cracked open. I keep a close eye on them and stir them around about every 10 seconds or so to make sure that they do not burn on any one side. I use a wooden spoon or heat resistant spoon to stir them around. It does not take long at all for them to harden and be ready!

      Enjoy!

  6. Carol Lawrence says:

How much water do you add? Water isn’t listed in the ingredients but step 3 says to add water.

    • Thanks for letting me know Carol. It is just 1/2 cup of water. I added it to the post. I appreciate your help. :)
