Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork Slow Cooker Recipe

This Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork recipe is the way to go. Super easy and tasty. We had some friends over for dinner and they loved it! The recipe makes a lot and we had plenty of leftovers.

The great thing about this Dr. Pepper pulled pork recipe is that it only uses 4 ingredients!

  • Pork (I often use a one or two pork sirloin tip roasts from Costco, but you can use whatever cut you want)
  • your favorite BBQ Rub or seasoning salt
  • Dr. Pepper
  • BBQ Sauce! (if you want to make your own, try this Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ Sauce Copycat Recipe)

Seasoned pulled pork in crock pot

Start with the Dry Rub

Sprinkle the BBQ rub liberally all over the pork and rub it in. You can do this the night before and it makes it even better. Applying the seasonings right before the slow cooker works too though and is still delicious!

Adding Dr. Pepper to crock pot

Add Dr. Pepper & Start Slow Cooking

Pour the can of Dr. Pepper over the pork. You can use whatever kind of cola you like, or you can even try apple juice instead, if desired.

Start slow cooking it in the morning and it will be ready to go for dinner. Set it and forget it. Easy!

Shredded Dr. Pepper pulled pork

Shred Your Pork & Add BBQ Sauce

What I love about the pork loin vs. the pork butt is there is very little fat on it, so you can just shred it in the slow cooker and don’t have to worry about pulling the fat out. Tongs work well for the shredding. Or put the roast out and use forks or shredder claws.

Doesn’t that look good?!! Mix it all up with the juices in the crockpot. Now add some BBQ sauce, about 1 bottle is good, if you want it less saucy do less.

Your Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork is Ready to Serve

I like my pulled pork on a bun. In the south we serve our BBQ sandwiches with coleslaw on top of the sandwich, try it and you will LOVE IT!

This recipe pairs perfectly with some baked beans and French fries. When I made this recipe I also made a peach cobbler for dessert. So yummy!

We have been enjoying Dr. Pepper pulled pork leftovers all week. It is great on top of a baked potato or you can make a BBQ pizza with pulled pork on top (heavenly). Or freeze the leftovers and reheat for later!

  • Shred the pork. Stir the shredded meat all together with the juices in the slow cooker. Then add BBQ sauce, as little or as much as you would like.
  • Serve on large buns or sliders. For true Texas style, add coleslaw over the top of the meat with a side of beans!

Recipe Notes

Costco sells a four pack of pork roasts and each roast is about 2 to 3 pounds. This recipe is written as if you used one of these pork roasts (and serves 8). This one is super easy to double and freeze some for later or enjoy leftovers!
Because of the carbonation, we don't recommend cooking this meal in an instant pot. However, you could use apple juice as your liquid and it will cook in the instant pot just fine!

Comments & Reviews

  • I am making this right now!!! =) The only thing I did differently was…..I drank a Dr.Pepper while making it. I just couldn’t help it.

  • I am vegetarian now, but I’ve shared my share of roast recipes! If you want to eliminate the soda, try apple juice!

It gives it that sweetness with a hint of apple, and tastes 1000× better!
