Red Velvet Oreo Cookie Bars (No Scooping Needed!)

If you love the flavor of red velvet and the crunch of Oreos, these Red Velvet Oreo Cookie Bars are going to be your new favorite shortcut dessert. Instead of scooping individual cookies, you simply press the dough into a pan and let the air fryer do the work — which makes these perfect for Valentine’s Day, parties, or an easy “something sweet” weeknight treat.

These bars are soft and slightly fudgy in the center with lightly crisp edges, and the crushed Oreos give you that classic cookies-and-cream vibe that competitors are leaning into. Once they’re cool, you’ll top them with cream cheese frosting (red velvet’s BFF), then finish with extra Oreo pieces and sprinkles for the cutest Valentine’s look.

Bonus: If you want a quick refresher on what “red velvet” actually means flavor-wise (mild cocoa + tang + vanilla), King Arthur has a solid explanation here: What is red velvet?

Quick Answer: Red Velvet Oreo Cookie Bars

Red velvet Oreo cookie bars are dessert bars made from red velvet cookie dough mixed with crushed Oreo cookies, baked in a pan instead of as individual cookies. This air fryer version cooks faster than oven bars while staying soft in the middle, then gets topped with cream cheese frosting and extra Oreos for a cookies-and-cream finish.

Air Fryer Time & Temperature for Red Velvet Oreo Bars

For most basket-style air fryers, these red velvet Oreo cookie bars bake best at 320°F for 10–12 minutes. The top should look set and a toothpick should come out mostly clean (a few moist crumbs are fine — that’s what keeps them soft).

Tip: Air fryers vary. If your bars are thicker than 1½ inches, add 1–3 minutes. If your pan is thin metal (vs Pyrex), check a minute early to avoid overbaking.

What to Top Red Velvet Oreo Cookie Bars With (Valentine’s Ideas)

Once the bars are baked and cooled, they pair perfectly with cream cheese frosting. For a Valentine’s Day look, top with extra Oreo pieces, pink/red sprinkles, or even heart-shaped sprinkles.

How Do You Make Cream Cheese Frosting?

To make the frosting, combine softened cream cheese and butter with powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Beat with a hand mixer until smooth and fluffy.

If the frosting feels too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons of milk. If it’s too thin, add a little more powdered sugar. We even mixed in extra cream from the Oreo centers for a fun boost of cookies-and-cream flavor.

How to Make Red Velvet Oreo Cookie Bars

Step 1: Cream the Mixture

Fold in the Oreo crumbs. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (176°C) if your air fryer benefits from a preheat, then set the cooking temp to 320°F for baking.

Step 4: Press, Bake, Rest

Grease an air fryer-safe dish and press the dough in evenly, about 1 to 1½ inches thick.

Bake at 320°F for 10–12 minutes, or until set and a toothpick comes out mostly clean.

Let the bars rest in the warm air fryer for about 2 minutes, then remove and cool before frosting. This rest time helps them finish setting without drying out.

Variations (Cookies & Cream Bars, Cookies, More)

  • More “cookies & cream” vibe: Use a mix of Oreo crumbs + chopped Oreo pieces for extra texture.
  • Make cookies instead: Form dough balls and air fry at 320°F for 8–10 minutes.
  • Valentine’s upgrade: Add pink/red sprinkles on top of the frosting, or drizzle with melted white chocolate.
  • Don’t want frosting? Dust cooled bars with powdered sugar and top with crushed Oreos.

How to Store & Freeze

Store: Keep frosted bars in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4–5 days (cream cheese frosting likes it cold).

Freeze: Freeze unfrosted bars wrapped tightly for up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge, then frost before serving for the best texture.

FAQ: Red Velvet Oreo Cookie Bars

Why is there vinegar in red velvet dough?

A tiny bit of vinegar helps create that classic red velvet tang and balances the mild cocoa flavor. It also supports a softer, more tender texture.

How do I know when the bars are done in the air fryer?

The top should look set (not wet), the edges lightly firm, and a toothpick should come out mostly clean with a few moist crumbs. Overbaking is the #1 reason bars turn dry.

Can I bake these in the oven instead?

Yes — if you need to, bake in a 350°F oven until set (time will vary by pan size/thickness). The air fryer is faster and helps keep the center softer.

What size pan works best?

Use a dish that fits comfortably in your air fryer basket with a little airflow around the sides. A small Pyrex or metal cake pan usually works well.

Can I make these ahead for Valentine’s Day?

Definitely. Bake the bars 1–2 days ahead, store unfrosted, then frost and decorate the day you serve for the prettiest finish.

  • ½ cup unsalted butter room temperature
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ tsp red food coloring
  • 1 ½ cups flour
  • 2 ½ tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • ¾ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt omit salt if using salted butter
  • ¾ cup Oreo crumbs

Cream Cheese Frosting Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese softened to room temperature
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter softened to room temperature
  • 3 ¾ cups Confectioners' sugar
  • ¾ tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch salt, to taste

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine butter and sugar. Mix for 3-4 minutes or until it’s pale and fluffy.
  • Add vinegar and mix until combined. Add the egg until combined. Scrape down the sides of the mixing bowl. Add vanilla and red food coloring and combine.
  • Then add 1/2 cup of the flour, cocoa, cornstarch, baking powder and salt. Scrape down the sides and the bottom of the mixing bowl. Once fully combined, add the rest of the flour and mix until everything is incorporated.
  • Mix in the Oreos.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 350 °F
  • Place the dough in a Pyrex dish that will fit in your air fryer or in any air fryer safe dish, about 1-1 1/2 inches thick (or however thick you want it to be). Be sure to spray the dish with oil. If you have leftover dough, you can form it into cookie dough balls.
  • Place the dish in the air fryer basket and cook for 10-12 minutes at 320 F until the a toothpick comes out clean. NOTE: You may need more cooking time -- depending on the dish and how thick the dough is. Check every few minutes until done, testing with a toothpick.
When done, let the bars rest inside the warm air fryer basket for 2-3 minutes.
  • Remove from the air fryer and let cool while you make the frosting.
  • Put softened cream cheese and butter in a bowl, along with the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and some salt to taste, and blend it all together with a hand mixer.
If you don’t like the consistency, you can always add in 1-2 tablespoons of milk to thin it out a bit or add in more powdered sugar to thicken the frosting up to your liking.

Recipe Notes

You can make cookies instead of bars- just form them into dough balls and cook for 8 minutes or until they are done to your liking at 320 degrees F or 160 degrees C.
