Easy Homemade Fudgy Brownies Recipe
I love this homemade brownie recipe for fudgy brownies. You only need a handful of pantry staples to make this quick treat in your air fryer.
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup cocoa powder
- ¼ cup all purpose flour
- ¼ tsp baking powder
- ¼ cup salted butter (if using unsalted butter, add about a pinch or two of salt)
- 1 large egg
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
If you have a box of brownie mix, you can still make brownies in the air fryer!
Add in ingredient ideas
Stir in some chocolate chips – dark chocolate, semi-sweet, milk, or white chocolate chips for extra tastiness and chocolate! You may also enjoy almond, walnuts, coconuts, or other tree nuts.
You could also chop up your favorite candy bar or chocolate bar into bit size chunks and stir it into the mixture. Additionally, try different flavored chips such as caramel or peanut butter for extra tastiness!
What pan do I use to make brownies in the air fryer?
I used a 6 inch round cake pan or cake barrel for these brownies. They were about ½-¾ inch thick brownies. I think this is an ideal size. You can use any oven safe dish to cook the brownies, it just may affect the cooking time, so adjust as needed if using a different pan.
How to make Air Fryer Brownies?
Brownies are so easy to make in the air fryer. Here are a few things you need to know!
Step 1. Make the brownie batter
This homemade brownie batter is divine. Be sure to follow these step when making this recipe!
Mix together the dry ingredients
In a bowl, whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder, flour, and the baking powder. Keep whisking until all the flour and cocoa clumps are gone.
Mix together the wet ingredients
In a small bowl, melt the butter in the microwave and let it cool slightly. Then in a different small bowl, combine the melted butter with the egg and vanilla.
Don’t mix in the vegetable oil. We are saving this for later.
Combine
Then, add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Whisk until everything is evenly combined.
Add up to and stir in a tablespoon of vegetable oil, or until the brownie mix is to your desired thickness. I ended up using a tablespoon of vegetable oil. If the brownie mix is still too thick for you, you can add additional vegetable oil to thin it out.
Step 2. Air Fry
Spray your 6-inch cake barrel pan with a little cooking spray. Add the brownie mixture.
Place the pan in a preheated air fryer. Cook for 15 minutes at 330 degrees F or 165 degrees C. Brownies should come out slightly fudgy with a toothpick inserted.
Step 3. Let the brownies rest
Let brownies sit in the warm air fryer for 10 minutes to finish cooking. Important Note: Air fryer is not on, just warm from cooking.
Remove from the air fryer basket and let cool slightly, until the pan is warm enough to handle.
How to serve this recipe
Because this a small batch of brownies you can enjoy these brownies however you’d like! Eat from the dish with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Or cut the perimeter of the brownie dish with a knife. Then, take a plate that is the size of the dish or bigger and cover the top. Next, flip the dish and tap on the bottom to remove the brownies.
Remove the dish and the brownies should be on the plate. You can leave the brownies like this or take a different plate to flip the brownies back over, it just depends on how you like to present your brownies! Enjoy!
Anyway that you serve these brownies they will still taste amazing!
Air Fryer Boxed Brownies Mix Notes
You can whip up your favorite box of brownies and bake them in the air fryer. You can use a dish like the 6 inch cake barrel that I used for the homemade brownies (you will likely need to cook in batches) or you can make brownie bites at the same time and temp as previous written (15 minutes at 330°F/165°C).
Brownie Box Bites in the Air Fryer
Make the brownie box according to the package directions (I like to substitute the oil with applesauce, 1 to 1 ratio). Then, fill silicone muffin liners with the batter and cook for 12-15 minutes at 320°F/160°C.
Baking in the Air Fryer
Any time you bake in the air fryer, be sure to cook at a low temperature, usually either 320F/160C or 330F/165C is the ideal baking time for treats. Of course, if the recipe you are following says something different, be sure to follow that recipe.
If you are worried about the tops of the treat you are baking might burn, then cover it with foil and continue cooking. If you want to make sure it gets a little crispy on the outside, be sure to remove the foil during the minute or two of cooking.
