How to Make Mascara Last Longer (Easy Hack)
Revive Dry Mascara With This Simple Hack
If I could only have one item of makeup for the rest of my life, it would be mascara. I literally wear it… All. The. Time. However, I usually don’t use the super expensive mascaras because if I did, I’d probably go bankrupt. I go through the tubes too fast! 🙂
I really love this Covergirl mascara and this new Maybelline mascara because they’re pretty affordable. The only problem I’ve found with these mascaras is that they can dry up quickly (especially if I am in a hurry and don’t get the wand screwed back in all the way). I have thrown away plenty of tubes of mascara for that very reason. At $5-$15 a piece, that can get expensive very quickly.
Finding a Solution
A friend of mine once told me to put a few drops of water into my tube to revive it. I did that and it was a watery mess that ended up drying right back up very soon after. Too bad.
Not all hope was lost though. Another friend of mine had told me to use some of my contact solution or a saline solution instead. I thought, what do I have to lose, I am going to toss the dried up tube anyways, so I tried it out.
Using Saline Solution to Make Mascara Last Longer
I actually had some saline solution lying around the house because I wear contacts so that made testing this dry mascara hack pretty easy! 🙂 For this tube, I used four drops and bam – it was almost like using a brand new mascara. I was so excited!
This works on mascara tubes that are almost gone too! You know when you get to the bottom of your tube and you are only getting a small amount of mascara out or it’s clumpy? This will fix clumpy and dry mascara and it’s so simple to do!
Share This Dry Mascara Hack With Your Friends!
This is a great way to save some money and buy yourself some more time before you have to go out and buy another tube of mascara. I am working on the 1-week mark since I added the saline solution and it’s still going great! This tube was basically done and I was about ready to toss it before I did!

This is great tip! Thanks for sharing!
You are welcome!
Hey there Cathy – I just gave this a try and it works very well. Saved my mascara and used the expired contact lens solution! Win win.
I have a tip to share – years ago, I received a gift box that contained Bare MIneral products. As would be expected, some of the products I liked quite well while others – not so much. The absolute best, the most wonderful item in the box was a product called Mineral Veil. It is a very light finishing powder, if you will. Fabulous product that more than lived up to the claims. Well, all good things come to an end, as they say. No more Mineral Veil and the price was quite high – $29.00/2 grams – too high for this girl. I went without it for some time but longed for another jar. What does any frugal person do when faced with this quandary? DIY, of course! I purchased a jar of Maybelline mineral foundation powder, mixed it with cornstarch and Voila! I had Mineral Veil – a lot of Mineral Veil – a half-pint jar for under $5.00! The savings is phenomenal – 275.3052375 g/dry half-pint x $15 (the cost/gram of Mineral Veil) = $4,125. Fabulessly Frugal!! : )
I love this Audrey! What a great hack!
Can I use eye drops instead of saline?
That should work OK!
