Why cook carrots in the air fryer?

The air fryer cooks the carrots with the circulation of hot air, while allowing excess fat to drain off. The result is much healthier than sauteed or baked carrots, because excess oil can drain away. Not only are air fryer carrots healthier, they are also done much faster than sauteing or baking. They take just 10-15 minutes!

What do air fryer carrots taste like?

They taste very similar to oven-baked or roasted carrots. The sweetness of the carrot is really accented and I prefer to season them very simply to let the natural flavors shine. However, there are some other seasoning options listed below!

How do I know when my carrots are done?

This is a matter of preference. I love mine very soft, so I cook until they are fork tender all the way through. Others may like a bit more texture to theirs. Since carrots are safe to eat when raw, it all depends on what you like. Slightly crisp, tender, soft? You decide!

No matter how you like your carrots, be sure to cut them evenly so they will finish cooking at the same time and cook evenly.

Serving suggestions

There are two ways you can serve these carrots:

  1. Air fryer carrot fries – in a basket or on a plate with a dipping sauce, such as ranch, on the side.
  2. Like a traditional roasted carrot side dish.

There is no wrong way to serve these air fryer carrots! They are great as a healthy snack or a quick side item for any meal.

Air fried carrots variations

I love the flavor of air fried carrots and prefer them seasoned simply, but if you are looking to change things up, here are some variations you can try…

  1. Garlic Carrots – Before frying, toss the carrots with garlic powder or fresh garlic.
  2. Spicy Carrots – Sprinkle with paprika and cayenne before air frying.
  3. Ranch Carrots – Sprinkle a little bit of dry ranch seasoning on them before frying. Here’s my fav DIY recipe for Ranch seasoning.
  4. Breaded Carrots – Drizzle the carrots with olive oil and roll in breadcrumbs or panko before frying.

I bet this lemon pepper herb dry rub would be a great seasoning option for the air fryer carrots too!
