Tips, Sizing & DIY Shortcuts
- Layer for warmth: Build costumes over leggings/thermals so kids last longer outside.
- Comfort = compliance: Swap stiff masks for face paint or soft headbands.
- Reflective accents: Add reflective tape to hems for nighttime visibility.
- Color coding: Assign each family member a color to simplify sourcing and keep the group cohesive.
- Batch shop: Start with one anchor piece per person (hat/wig/graphic tee), then fill in from your closets.

FAQs
How do I keep family costumes budget-friendly?
Choose themes that leverage basics you already own, then add 1–2 statement items (wig, hat, prop). Our links above include affordable options to mix with DIY pieces.
What if my teen refuses to match?
Let them choose a related character (e.g., Ghostbusters vs. spooky ghost; Mario vs. Bowser). Matching vibe beats identical outfits and keeps everyone happy.
Are these costumes stroller- or carrier-friendly?
Yes—S’mores (baby marshmallow!), Wizard of Oz (Toto), and Bluey are especially carrier-friendly. Avoid bulky skirts or rigid headpieces for infants.

These are such great ideas! There are 5 of us, but we’ve never all dressed up together. I was starting to think about costumes today, and we might have to do this! We usually have 1-2 dressed up as Star Wars characters, but maybe this year we’ll take the leap and all 5 of us can dress up together. 🙂 Thanks for the adorable ideas! I also love Inside Out, my kids LOVE that movie.
So happy you enjoyed it! Be sure to tag us in your halloween pictures so we can see what you guys came up with!
