Healthier Beignets in the Air Fryer

When I travel I love getting beignets at local pastry shops or in the airport. However, it’s normally expensive! It wasn’t until I tried making beignets in the air fryer that we’ve been beignets have become a regular in our home. You will love this recipe as much as we do because the ingredients are healthier, the less expensive, and incredibly tasty! Follow along as I share with you how to make beignets in the air fryer.

Quick and Easy Air Fryer Beignets Ingredients

The ingredients you’ll need for this recipe are pantry staples! You are going to love how quick and easy this recipe is to make. For air fryer beignets, you need:

  • ¾ cup warm water
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yeast
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ½ cup of milk
  • 2½-3 cups flour
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • ½ cup powdered sugar

Then, if you want to dip the beignets in a raspberry sauce, you need a ¼ cup raspberry jam and 1-2 tablespoons of water.

How to Prepare Beignets for the Air Fryer

Not only are the ingredients simple for this air fryer recipe, but so are the steps. The longest part will be waiting for the dough to rise. But while the dough is rising you can make an easy air fryer dinner such as air fryer kielbasa veggie dinner or air fryer stuffed peppers. Then, enjoy the beignets for dessert!

To make your dough, first combine warm water, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and the yeast in a medium bowl. Mix the ingredients together and let it rest for 4-5 minutes, until bubbly.

Next, add and stir together salt, butter, egg, and milk.

Then, add 1 cup of flour by hand or in a stand mixer with a dough hook. Stir until everything is incorporated. Gradually stir in as much of the remaining flour, as needed, until the dough begins to stay together in a ball and a moderately stiff dough is formed.

Knead the dough for 5 more minutes. Finally, place the dough in an oiled bowl and let it rise for 2 hours.

How to Make Air Fryer Beignets

After the dough has doubled in size, usually about 2 hours later, it is time to cook the beignets in the air fryer.

First, preheat the air fryer at 400°F/200°C for 5 minutes. Then, punch down on the dough and roll it into a large rectangle, ½ inch thick. Cut the dough into 2×3 inch diamond shapes.

Next, dip each rectangle into the ¼ cup melted butter, then place the rectangles in the air fryer basket.

Bake at 350°F/175°C for 6 minutes, turning the beignets at the halfway point.

Raspberry dipping sauce with Air Fryer Beignets

While the beignets cook, you can make the raspberry dipping sauce. For the sauce you need  ¼ cup raspberry jam and 1-2 tablespoons of water. Simply mix the ingredients together until well combined. Feel free to experiment this jam to water ratio with more of your favorite flavored jams.

After the beignets have finished cooking, immediately remove them from the air fryer basket. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with the raspberry dipping sauce.

  • Wow this is an awesome recipe and its way healthier with that wonderful air fryer!

  • I have a question. The second ingredient in the recipe is 1/4 cup sugar. In the instructions it calls for 1 tablespoon of sugar with the warm water and yeast. What happens to the rest of the sugar?? I’ve read the recipe over and over and cannot find anywhere where it says when to add the remaining sugar.

    • Hi Joan! Great question! The sugar is used to activate the yeast. So the most you will need is a 1/4 cup of sugar. But even just a couple of teaspoons will do the trick. If you have leftover sugar you can save it for a different recipe or even dip your beignets in the sugar for a nice sugary finish. Hope this helps!

  • These were DELICIOUS!! I never really comment after trying recipes but, I just had to for this one. These are powdery pillows of heaven. I’ve had beignets from restaurants and wasn’t sure if this is something that would taste good air fried. Verdict: IT IS!!! Thank you for this amazing recipe.
