5 MODERN DIY FANNY PACKS

Fanny packs or belt bags are perfect when you are travelling.  Here are some modern DIY fanny pack ideas that are very edgy and chic.

1.  Turn a Clutch into a Chic Fanny Pack

YOU WILL NEED:

embroidery floss

key chain

piece of pleather

purse with an adjustable strap

clutch or large wallet

belt

fabric scissors

xacto knife

2.  HOW TO SEW A MODERN FANNY PACK

YOU WILL NEED:

Two 11″ x 8″ inch pieces of fabric for the outside of the pack

Two 11″ x 8″ inch pieces of fabric for the lining of the pack

Two 9″ x 6 ½” pieces of fabric for the inner pocket

Two half circle pieces of fabric for the flap (These need to be 11″ inches long and 5 ¼” inches tall at the center. Use a bowl or plate to cut your round edge if you’re not comfortable doing it freehand.)

Two 30″ x 4 ½” inch pieces of fabric for the straps. You can make them shorter or longer depending on waist size and whether you prefer to tie the ends in a knot or bow.

Two small pieces of iron-on interfacing. Mine were about 2″ x 2″ inches.

Thread

Scissors

Measuring tape or ruler

Snap and snap attachment tools including a hammer

Seam ripper

D-rings if you want to use them on the straps (or you can just tie the ends in a bow in the back like I did)

Iron

Ironing board

3.  DIY Belt Purse

YOU WILL NEED:

Bag or purse (vintage, second hand, from your aunt, mother, grandmother ….)

Basic leather belt (you can contrast the color of the bag or that is the same tone)

Leather punch

Thick thread and needle

Pliers

4.  SIMPLE DIY FANNY PACK

YOU WILL NEED:

2 fat quarters of fabric (Eco Canvas, Linen-Cotton Canvas, Faux Suede, or denim-like fabrics) in matching designs for the exterior of your fanny pack.

1 fat quarter of soft lining for your fanny pack.

Two vinyl zippers: 6-inch & 12-inch or longer (Zippers will be cut during construction, but size given is the safe minimum length needed).

Thread matching your fabrics

Nylon webbing or a leather strap

3/4-inch wide, 16+ inches long

1 parachute buckle or clasp of your preference to fit 3/4-inch webbing/strap.
