Pepsi BBQ Sauce
Make Homemade Pepsi BBQ Sauce!
If you happen to have some Pepsi around or are able to get it for cheap right now, you can use some of it to make this barbecue sauce! This sauce is tangy with a bright BBQ flavor. Give it a try! My kids adore it. I realize that Pepsi is full of sugar, but other than that, you know exactly what is going into your sauce! Most of the time you don’t know when you purchase a sauce what exactly has been put into it! But this way you can be sure! Plus, it is a good thing just to mix things up every once and awhile! We can all get bored of just the regular barbecue sauce!
It is pretty easy to make this recipe! Chop up the onion, mince the garlic, then saute it with the butter until the onion is translucent and soft. That is pretty much the extent of the prep, other than measuring out a few other ingredients! It will take just minutes to prepare and that is the best part! Sometimes I have a hard time doing DIYs if it ends up taking forever! I have kids to tend to, a house to clean, chores to do, and MANY other things on my to-do list each day. The reason why I love this recipe is that is honestly takes no time and is so delicious!
The key to this recipe is the special ingredients! Here’s the special ingredient! Pepsi. It doesn’t matter if it comes in a can or a bottle or whatever, just use what you have or whichever is cheapest. One batch of the sauce calls for 6 ounces of Pepsi, which is about 3/4 cup.
I have not tried this recipe with any other cola soda pop, but my guess is that any would probably work fine as well. Especially with one similar like Coke! Give it a try if you are feeling adventurous!
The only other ingredients are Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, white vinegar, and ketchup. Easy. I almost always have those things on hand. I have the majority of these ingredients in my stock pile or they are on my list each week to buy at the store! This is an awesome recipe to have for when your barbecue sauce runs out and you need to whip something up fast!
After simmering for one hour, I end up with right about 2 cups of sauce. So one batch of this recipe yields about 2 cups, but it may vary depending on how long you let it simmer. I have had success portioning and freezing homemade barbecue sauce before, so if you don’t use it all, you can refrigerate it for a while or freeze it for even longer!
So there ya go! A simple homemade BBQ sauce using Pepsi as an ingredient. Try it with chicken, shredded pork, on a burger, however you like to use barbecue sauce!
