How to Stop a Run in Pantyhose or Tights (2 Fixes)
Once they get a hole, pantyhose can run quicker than Usain Bolt doing the 100-meter dash. If you don’t learn how to remedy the situation quickly, you’re going to end up spending a small fortune buying replacement pairs.
Luckily, it’s actually pretty easy to fix a run in tights or pantyhose. All it takes is a bit of know-how and some clear nail polish or hairspray. Let me explain…
How to Prevent Hosiery Holes from Getting Bigger
I have two different tricks that I use when I get a hole in my pantyhose. The key thing to remember is that for either of these methods to be effective, you have to catch the run early.
The Clear Nailpolish Method
As soon as you get the slightest run or hole in your nylons, take them off and paint clear nail polish along the border of the hole. Let the polish dry before putting your nylons back on.
The Hairspray Method
Hairspray also works as a quick fix if you’re on-the-go. Just spray some hairspray wherever you have the hole or run and that will help prevent expanding.
Any brand of hairspray works but the “super hold” type of hair sprays work best.
Conclusion
If you’re someone who wears tights or pantyhose often, you’ll probably find yourself using this little life hack pretty regularly. It’s such a great way to give your tights some extra life!
If you want to be prepared all the time, you could even carry a small bottle of clear nail polish with you at all times. That way you can apply the nail polish to your nylons right away which will make the fix more effective.

Great article! I to am a Happy Housewife and I just adore your blog! A lot of what you say is so true… its all about simplifying things. We cut down on a lot of our exspenses but sitting down and literally taking a pen and paper to things. For us eating out was an issue ( i know i should cook more) and now we are creating a meal plan on Sundays to find where we can save and what we can make at home. Also- we had ridiculously high costing cellphone plans and after my hesitation on switching to a prepaid phone we finally jumped ship and switched to a company called tracfone. Extremely reliable and most importantly- saving between the two of us and one child – 3 phones we are saving 160 dollars a month. We each got a smartphone like some samsung ( sorry not totally tech literate) and we have this family plan with no contract and no fees and i mean just each month it is so nice to know that money will be saved. bills are tough but this is one thing that has sorta been a blessing in disguise!
Thank you so much Betsy! It’s all about cutting back wherever you can. I’m glad to hear you were able to make changes in your budget to save money. Making changes is not easy, but it’s worth the peace of mind when you know your finances are in order. I’m really happy for you! Thanks for the note! It means a lot.
We finially had our 14 year old daughter baptized last month on January 15th during mass. She didnt want to wait untill Easter vigil to do it.She wore the traditional, white, short sleeve, top of the knees baptism dress with a matching bonnet, white tights and white mary jane shoes and had a white tee shirt with the traditional white cloth diaper and rubberpants under her tights. Her diaper was pinned on with regular baby diaper pins and her rubberpants were adult size.During the ceremony, one of the diaper pins came unsnapped and poked thru the side of the rubberpants and the tights and caused a run in them! She will be making her First Holy Communion on May 21 and has to wear the diaper, rubberpants and tights with her communion dress also. How can we repair the run in the tights?
