Home Improvement Hacks: How to Renew the Bathroom for Cheap

Welcome to a new installment of home improvement ideas on Fabulessly Frugal. Today, I am excited to share some frugal tips and tricks to help you upgrade and redecorate your bathroom. These tricks will work for any sized bathroom.

Before I share some ideas about how to easily redecorate the bathroom, here are some principles you will want to keep in mind.

1. Use what you already have

You will save so much more money if you avoid purchases and use leftovers from previous projects. Be sure to also take a look in garage for any old things that you can use as well.

2. Take a trip to the thrift store

The thrift store may have some great finds that you can easily refurbish with some spray paint or wood stain. Or, if you are going for a more old timey look, you can use it as is.

3. Be Creative

Instead of purchasing everything brand new and name brand, see if you can find similar items or shapes at the dollar store or other inexpensive stores. It may require some disassmbling and assembling, but you can DIY the same accessories.

How to update your bathroom for less than $100

Choose what upgrades you want to make to your bathroom from the list below. I love how simple and easy all of these tips are.

1. Paint the Walls

Adding a fresh layer of paint can do wonders to update your bathroom. To paint the walls, you will need

1. paint
2. brush
3. roller
4. tray
5. and a mixing stirring stick

The amount of paint you get depends on how big your space is.

2. Update the shower head

Replace the shower head with a newer one. Or spray paint and seal your current one with a new color.

3. Switch out the Shower Curtain

You can simply refresh your bathroom by changing out the shower curtains with new ones. Be sure to choose a curtain that accents the colors and theme of the space.

4. Swap out the towels

Like the shower curtain, you can swap out the towels for new accenting ones.

5. Refurbish the cabinets

You don’t need to buy a new vanity to refresh give your bathroom a makeover. Take the cabinets you already have and give them a good cleaning and paint them with oil based paint and primer.

6. Add shelving

Over the toilet shelving is all the rage right now. Update your bathroom by making some DIY bathroom shelving, or you can purchase some cheap ones instead. For example, these shelves are only $22.00 on Amazon. (And, they are Amazon’s choice!)

7. Add greenery or other small decorations

Bring the bathroom to life by adding a few small decorations like some fake green plants. Here are a few of my favorites on Amazon.

8. Update the Mirror

The mirror will be one of the more used items in your bathroom, so a fresh update to your mirror can work wonders. I suggest this update especially if your mirror is already small.

9. Add Contrast

Depending on the colors you end up choosing, you can make your bathroom look brand new by adding contrast in simple ways. This video on YouTube showed how they added contrast by painting on a black grout stain to their bathroom tiles. This created a fantastic contrast with the white walls and cabinets.

10. Add photo decor

Updating the bathroom with some photos can really spark a change in the bathroom, especially bathroom inspired artwork like these cute signs.
