Freshen Up Your Wardrobe By Hosting A Clothing Swap
Would you like to freshen up your wardrobe? Attending a clothing swap is a great way to do it, without breaking the bank. A clothing swap is a fun event where multiple people come together and swap the clothing they no longer want, with someone else’s clothing. Not only does this save money, it also helps the environment by allowing clothes to be recycled. Looking for other ways to recycle? Check out How You Can Recycle Old Electronics.
If you can’t find a clothing swap in your area, host one of your own with these easy tips.
Decide what kind of swap to have
There are many things to consider when planning a clothing swap. How many people are you going to invite? Is it going to be for seasonal clothes, or anything goes? Are you only doing specific sizes? Whatever you decide, you will want to make the limits clear to those you invite.
Choose a location
The number of people you plan to invite can help you decide on a location. If it’s just a few friends and family, maybe you could have it at someone’s house. If you are inviting more people, you will want to find a bigger location, such as a church, park, or community center.
Decide on rules for the swap, and stick to them
Are you going to limit the number of items people can bring? What kind of items are you accepting, and what condition do they need to be in? Set your rules ahead of time, and make sure to communicate them well to anyone who will be attending.
Advertise your swap
Your advertising method will also depend on the size of swap you are having. If it’s just a few friends and family, word of mouth or simple invitations might be the best option. If you are hosting a bigger swap, maybe make a post on social media or with your neighborhood organization.
Organize your system
The easiest way to organize your swap, is to use a kind of “swap currency”. When someone checks in, they get a coin or token for each item they bring. They can then use those coins to “purchase” other items that are available.
Get your space ready
Set up racks or tables to display items, and organize them by size or style. You will also want to make sure you have a place for people to try on clothes, and set up several mirrors.
Decide what to do with the leftover items
Will everyone take home their unclaimed items, or will you donate them to a charity? If choosing a charity, plan ahead to make sure they will be accepting donations on the day your swap is over.
