8. Hello Fresh
Hello Fresh was one of the first companies to enter the meal kit delivery space, and they’re definitely one of the best meal kits around in terms of popularity. Still, they are a bit pricey compared to other similar boxes (like Home Chef), and they don’t bring anything too new to the table.
What makes them great is the flexibility and simplicity of their meal kits. You don’t need to be a pro chef to cook their recipes! The recipe cards they include with meals are super easy to follow, and can even be saved and reused if you want to make the meal again.

Honorable Meal Kit Mentions
Here are some meal kit delivery services that didn’t make the list above, but they’re still worth checking out!
Savory Butcher
The Savory Butcher is an awesome meat pick-up service. They have really high-quality, affordable chicken, pork, and beef in bulk, sourced directly from local farms.
How Savory Butcher works is pretty simple too: you find a pickup location in your city, make an order of any bulk meat you need, head to the location on pickup day, they load you up, and you’re good to go! You can either freeze the meat for meal planning or split it with friends or family.
Read our full Savory Butcher review or head over to the Savory Butcher website to learn more.
Love With Food
Love With Food is a snack subscription box filled with 7+ all-natural, organic snacks (they have a gluten-friendly option as well). The snacks you receive are a surprise each month, which is really fun, and the least expensive box is only $7.99/month.
Oh and don’t worry: if you find a snack you really like, you can purchase it directly from their Snack Shop.
What’s really cool about Love With Food is that for each box purchased, they donate a meal to a food bank. You’re basically doing good for your body by snacking organically, and good for the world too!

Carnivore Club
Carnivore Club is a meat subscription box and although it has its similarities to Savory Butcher, it’s quite a bit different. The biggest difference is that Carnivore Club delivers right to your front door rather than you having to pick it up yourself.
The box choices are quite a bit different too. Carnivore Club lets you choose between two options: a classic box filled with 4-6 premium handcrafted cured meats and a snack box filled with (you guessed it) premium cured meat snacks like beef jerky and salami chips.

Are Meal Kits Worth It?
Ok, you’ve seen the best meal kits, now you’re probably wondering if any of them are even worth signing up for. To find out, let’s look at the pros of cons of meal delivery services:
Benefits
- Saves you time – You don’t have to meal plan or go to the grocery store as often.
- Less food waste – Most meal delivery services perfectly portion meals so that nothing goes to waste.
- Cheaper than eating out – If you use a meal delivery service to cut back on restaurant and take-out visits, you’ll save money.
- They’re fun – Meal kits will introduce you to new recipes and perhaps even new cooking techniques which is a lot of fun.
Downsides
- Cost – Meal kits are always going to cost more than if you were to grocery shop and meal plan on your own. However, the time savings may be very well worth the extra cost!
- Excess packaging – Cardboard boxes, plastic-wrapped ingredients, and cold packs in every box! Meal kits aren’t the best for the environment, but some boxes do a great job of limiting their eco-footprint.
The Verdict?
As with most things, whether a meal delivery service is worth it or not really comes down to your situation. The pros typically outweigh the cons, but cost is the biggest deciding factor.
If you’re really busy but not hurting financially, ordering meal kits can help you spend extra time doing more important things, like hanging out with your family.
On the other hand, if you’re running a pretty tight budget, it may be a better idea to learn how to meal prep (check out our meal planning tips) and save money on groceries in order to relieve some financial stress.
