What is a Chaffle?

You might find it weird at first, but a chaffle is a waffle made from cheese and eggs. That’s it. For the most basic chaffle recipe, all you need are those two ingredients.

Surprisingly, done right and with a bit of syrup, butter, fruit, or other waffle topping favorites, chaffles really do taste a lot like regular waffles.

Keep in mind, there’s a lot of room for modification here. As you’ll see from the chaffle recipes below, you can add/use different ingredients for different types of chaffles. The possibilities are pretty endless.

What You Need to Make Chaffles

The only thing you’ll need to make homemade chaffles (besides the basic ingredients), is a waffle maker. It seems to be trendy to use a mini waffle maker to make cute little chaffles, but you could use a regular waffle iron too.

That being said, there IS one benefit to using a mini waffle maker: it makes good size chaffles to use as buns. Some people use chaffles as burger buns, sandwich buns, etc. If you want to do that, it might be handy to pick up a mini maker on Amazon (they’re super affordable).

If you need a festive chaffle in your life, this is it. Bust this gingerbread chaffle recipe out around the holidays with a glass of eggnog and you’ll be feeling more Christmassy in an instant.

This chaffle (and a few of the ones going forward) uses cream cheese instead of shredded cheese for a (you guessed it) creamier, less cheesy chaffle. The cream cheese also holds everything together a bit better.
