Ingredients for Homemade Granola

This recipe is deliciously easy! To make homemade granola, you need:

  • Old fashioned whole grain rolled oats
  • coconut flakes (unsweetened) or shaved almonds
  • pumpkin seeds shelled
  • flax seeds
  • honey
  • real maple syrup
  • coconut oil melted into liquid form
  • salt

Additional Ingredients and Substitution Ideas

Include your favorite nuts like chopped almonds, pecans, or walnuts.

Use a sugar-free option like stevia or monk fruit sweetener instead of the maple syrup or honey.

Use butter or avocado instead of coconut oil.

Easy Homemade Granola Recipe

You will be surprised with how easy it is to cook the granola in the air fryer. It only takes 3 steps to prepare homemade granola before cooking.

  1. Combine the rolled oats, coconut flakes, pumpkin seeds and flax seeds in a bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the coconut oil, honey, maple syrup, and salt. They will combine easier if you heat them in the microwave for 15-30 seconds.
  3. Drizzle the liquid mixture over the dry ingredients and gently toss/stir until evenly coated.

Tips for making homemade granola

I like to measure out the honey and maple syrup in grams using my kitchen scale. This makes preparing easier and quicker!

How to Bake Granola in the Air Fryer?

To bake granola in the air fryer, place the granola in an even layer in the air fryer basket and air fry for 4 minutes at 340°F/ 170°C.

Air fry for an additional 4 minutes and again stir the granola. Then, bake for another 2-3 minutes, or until the granola is a light golden brown. Pour onto a parchment lined cookie sheet and let cool completely.

Tips for cooking granola in the air fryer

I recommend using a silicone spatula to separate and mix the granola mixture within the air fryer basket.

Place the granola on air fryer parchment paper so that it doesn’t fall down any of the grates from the basket.

What setting should I use on my air fryer to make granola?

Many air fryers have different settings like bake, air fry, roast, or broil. You will need to check with your air fryer user’s manual to see if these settings are either presets (like recommended times and temperatures) or if they actually change how the air circulates the food.

For example, for the Cosori TurboBlaze, the bake setting uses a slower fan speed, thus affecting how fast the air moves within the air fryer.

If your air fryer has different settings, I recommend using the roast or bake setting to ensure the granola gets crunchy.

If your air fryer does not have different, that’s okay, the air fry setting or regular mode of your air fryer will work great.

How do I store homemade granola?

Store homemade granola in an airtight container. Homemade granola can stay good for up to 2 weeks when stored in an airtight container at room temperature.

Why is my granola still soft?

After baking, if your granola is still soft, it might be due to insufficient baking time in the air fryer. Try increasing the baking time by a few minutes to achieve a crispier texture. Additionally, ensure that the granola is spread out in an even layer within the air fryer basket for consistent cooking.

How do you revive soft granola?

After a few days, if your granola is soft, do not fear. You can revive soft granola. To revive soft granola, spread it out on a baking sheet and bake in the air fryer at 330°F for 5-10 minutes until it becomes crispy again. Keep an eye on it to prevent burning.

How do you make granola less hard?

To make granola less hard, you can decrease the baking time in the air fryer by a few minutes to achieve a softer texture. Additionally, you can reduce the amount of sweetener or oil used in the recipe.
