It is national dairy month and with all the milk coupons available it is time to make some homemade ice cream~

Start with 6 egg yolks, 2/3 cup of unsweetened sifted cocoa powder and 1 1/3 cups sugar…
Add 1 1/3 cups of 1/2 and 1/2…
Whisk together until smooth…
Then transfer to a double broiler and cook over med heat for about 5-7 minutes stirring constantly…
Until it looks like this and coats the back of a wooden spoon nicely…
Carefully remove from double broiler and add 4 cups of heavy cream…
Whisk together…
After you have incorporated the whipping cream…
Place your bowl in the refrigerator to chill for about 2-3 hours…
Next place your chilled ice cream mixture into your ice cream freezer (or if you’re like me… your KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker Attachment).
And churn…
For about 20 minutes or so or until firm…
You can choose to eat your ice cream right away soft serve style or…
Place the ice cream into reusable containers and freeze for later…
And then… when the kids have gone to bed… sneak a bowl
Chocolate Velvet Ice Cream
1 1/3 cup sugar
2/3 cup cocoa
6 egg yolks, beaten
4 cups heavy cream
1 1/3 cup half and half

I have read this recipe three times and am still trying to figure out how it uses up milk?? I don’t see any in the recipe at all! Maybe because this ice cream would go great with a tall cold glass of it?
But it does look super delicious and easy, milk or no milk.
OH MY WORD… I am Sooooo lame
This recipe has NO MILK… hahaha… what was I thinking? Seriously… I am cracking up so hard right now I have tears in my eyes… I must of been thinking about my Vanilla Ice Cream recipe… oh well… sorry about that
Hahaha, I am laughing with you! I totally thought I was going nuts. But nah, turns out it’s you, not me.
Thanks for the fun posts you do, keep it up!!
So, how does the milk factor into the ice cream recipe? Can you substitute milk for half-and-half?
Also, is it safe to eat raw egg if it’s been frozen like this? I’ve always thought you shouldn’t eat raw egg (such as in raw cookie dough) because of the bacteria. It’s killed during cooking — does freezing raw egg also kill bacteria?
Mmm… That looks so good, and even better for me that it’s not full of milk. We don’t get along very well but I still loooove icecream! Being able to make my own would solve a big problem between me and icecream here lately, one of the ingredients I found out it contains. It has ruined icecream for me. Wish I had never found out. I’ll spare the rest of you the agony. Anyone know how much a decent “make your own” setup costs? Or better yet … how to get it at a steal?
