How to Air Fry Uncrustables Sandwiches

What is the recommended cooking time and temperature for making frozen Uncrustables in the air fryer?

Place the frozen Uncrustables in the air fryer basket. You do not need to spray the air fryer basket. Air fry at 370 degrees Fahrenheit or 187 degrees Celsius for 5 minutes. You don’t need to flip halfway through cooking, but you can if you desire. Add more time if your frozen peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are not your preferred crispiness.

Can you cook Uncrustables in an oven style air fryer?

Not all air fryers are the same. This recipe is based off of a 1700W basket style air fryer. This recipe will also work for oven style air fryers, although you may need to adjust the time. Use an instant read food thermometer to gauge the doneness of your food. Frozen food is fully cooked when it reaches an internal temperature of 165F or 74C.

Can you put Smucker’s Uncrustables in the air fryer?

Typically when I think of Uncrustables, I think of the Smucker’s brand. While you can put Smucker’s Uncrustables in the air fryer, you can also air fry any knock-off brand of Uncrustables that you find at your local grocery store’s freezer section. Just look for a frozen, pre-made, and packaged peanut butter and jelly sandwich (PB&J).

How do I Serve Air Fried Uncrustables?

The best way that we love to serve air fryer uncrustables is by topping them with Nutella or hazelnut spread! Either use a knife to spread or brush the Nutella on top. Or drizzle the Nutella with a spoon. Or, place the Nutella inside a sandwich bag and cut off one of the corners. Then use the bag to squeeze out Nutella perfectly onto each bite!

You can do this with any of your favorite toppings, such as:

  • Peanut Butter
  • Cookie Butter
  • Almond Butter
  • Chocolate Syrup
  • Melted Chocolate Chips
  • Marshmallow Creme
  • Honey
  • Cinnamon Sugar mixture
  • Whipped Cream
  • Sunflower Butter
  • Grape Jelly
  • Strawberry Jam (this homemade strawberry jam tastes like candy!)
  • Raspberry Jam

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I cook multiple Uncrustables at the same time in the air fryer, and if so, how should I adjust the cooking time?

Yes, you can cook multiple Uncrustables at the same time in the air fryer. However, it is important to make sure that they have enough space between them for the hot air to circulate evenly. If the Uncrustables are too close together, they may not cook properly. As for adjusting the cooking time, it is generally recommended to increase the cooking time by a few minutes when cooking multiple Uncrustables at once. This ensures that each sandwich is thoroughly heated and crisped to perfection. Keep an eye on the cooking process and check for the desired level of golden brownness before removing them from the air fryer.

Should Uncrustables be frozen or thawed?

Typically, I like to keep the Uncrustables frozen because I don’t have to wait for the sandwiches to thaw. However, you can also thaw the sandwiches then air fry them. I recommend reducing the time by a couple of minutes so they don’t burn.

Is it okay to eat frozen Uncrustables?

Yes, it is safe to eat frozen Uncrustables. They are specifically designed to be enjoyed straight from the freezer, without the need for thawing or heating. The sandwich filling, typically peanut butter and jelly, is pre-assembled and sealed within the bread, which helps preserve its freshness and texture while frozen. The bread portion of the Uncrustable thaws quickly once you start eating it, providing a soft and delicious sandwich experience. However, if you prefer a warm and toasty Uncrustable, you can heat it in an air fryer, toaster oven, or microwave according to the instructions provided.

How do I make Homemade Uncrustables?

Uncrustables are just premade peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. As such, you can just fry a homemade pb&j and get the same effect! For kicks and giggles, you can even use a cookie cutter to form the sandwich crusts to look like Uncrustables. Just cut out the shape you want and then use a fork to pinch the sides together.
