WOW! Walmart is Closing on Thanksgiving this Year!
For the first time in 30 years, Walmart has announced that they will be closing their doors on Thanksgiving Day! Walmart has kept its stores open on the holiday since the late 1980s. As COVID-19 cases are on the rise around the US, retailers are thinking strategically about their holiday plans, with concerns over having crowds in stores.
This leads to major speculation about WHAT Black Friday will look like this year. We are betting lots more offers will be moving online in order to avoid lots of people in lines and in stores vying for the hot doorbuster deals. We also predict other major retailers will follow suit — closing their stores on Thanksgiving Day to give their essential workers a much needed break and to avoid exposing shoppers to crowded stores.
Walmart’s Sam’s Club chain, historically, has closed on Thanksgiving Day, and it will again this year.
“We know this has been a trying year, and our associates have stepped up. We hope they will enjoy a special Thanksgiving Day at home with their loved ones,” John Furner, CEO of Walmart U.S., said in a statement.
