Super Easy Instant Pot Mississippi Chicken
How to make Instant Pot Mississippi Chicken Sandwiches
Simple, easy, and flavorful! The whole family loves these Instant Pot Mississippi chicken sandwiches! And I love how easy it is to make in the Instant Pot. If you prefer slow cooker method, scroll on down for instructions.
Friendly reminder – don’t forget to put the sealing ring in your Instant Pot lid. I washed the ring and forgot to put it back in the lid before trying this recipe for the first time. This recipe does not work without it! 😉
Mississippi Chicken Sandwich Ingredients
Just dump the chicken, broth, seasonings, butter, and peppers into the pot!
Feel free to use a homemade au jus seasoning or homemade ranch seasoning mix. It can be a healthier recipe when you choose to make the seasonings or find seasonings with good ingredients in them.
As far as pepperoncini peppers go, you can usually find them in a glass jar near the pickled products in the canned section at the grocery store. There are usually different levels of spiciness and I use mild.
Any sandwich bun or roll will do! Just choose your fav. You could even eat the Mississippi chicken with cheese in a tortilla or wrap.
I think provolone or mozzarella are my favorite cheese choices here, but I bet pepper jack would be a nice option for those who like a little more spice.
How long to cook Mississippi Chicken in the Instant Pot
The cook time is going to depend on the chicken…
- frozen chicken breasts – cook for 30 minutes
- thawed chicken breasts – cook for 15-20 minutes (go 20 if they are large and thick)
- frozen chicken tenders – cook for 6 minutes, let pressure release naturally for 6 minutes
- thawed chicken tender – cook for 3 minutes, let pressure release naturally for 6 minutes
You can cut the chicken breasts into smaller pieces to reduce cooking time. Plan on about 15 minutes for your Instant Pot to come to pressure, then the cook time will begin.
Slow Cooker Mississippi Chicken Instructions
Add chicken, broth, butter, au jus seasoning, ranch seasoning, and peppers to the slow cooker. Cook on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, or until fork tender. Shred the chicken, then return to the liquid and it’s ready to serve with a sandwich roll and cheese! See more slow cooker recipes.
How to Shred Chicken
Enjoy your Mississippi Chicken Sandwich!
Dump recipes, like this one, are awesome for freezer meals! You can freeze the ingredients so they are ready to dump into the Instant Pot or slow cooker or you can cook it up and freeze the shredded chicken.

We made this a week ago and my kids loved it! It was so easy and good. I did put my seal back after I washed it but it was not in all the way so I kept trying to get the lid on for what felt like 10 years until I checked the seal! Haha
Haha. Glad you were able to reposition the ring before ruining the food and that the kids loved the Mississippi chicken! Double win. Yay!
