1. Turn a Clutch into a Chic Fanny Pack

If you have an old clutch or large wallet lying around and you don’t want to spend a lot of time on your DIY fanny pack, this project is perfect. Simply find a fashionable belt to go along with your clutch, add some loops, and you’re good to go!

Supplies:

• Embroidery floss
• Key chain
• Piece of pleather
• Purse with an adjustable strap
• Clutch or large wallet
• Belt
• Fabric scissors

2. Modern Fanny Pack DIY

You’ll have to get pretty involved in order to make your very own modern DIY fanny pack but the end result is totally worth it! The creator of this tutorial calls it a mix between a fanny pack and an apron with an inner pocket.

Supplies:

• Two 11″ x 8″ inch pieces of fabric for the outside of the pack
• Two 11″ x 8″ inch pieces of fabric for the lining of the pack
• Two 9″ x 6 ½” pieces of fabric for the inner pocket
• Two half-circle pieces of fabric for the flap (These need to be 11″ inches long and 5 ¼” inches tall at the center. Use a bowl or plate to cut your round edge if you’re not comfortable doing it freehand.)
• Two 30″ x 4 ½” inch pieces of fabric for the straps. You can make them shorter or longer depending on waist size and whether you prefer to tie the ends in a knot or bow.
• Two small pieces of iron-on interfacing. Mine were about 2″ x 2″ inches.
• Thread
• Scissors
• Measuring tape or ruler
• Snap and snap attachment tools including a hammer
• Seam ripper
• D-rings if you want to use them on the straps (or you can just tie the ends in a bow in the back as I did)
• Iron
• Ironing board

3. Simple DIY Fanny Pack

This DIY fanny pack is another that will require some sewing skills but look how good it looks! I love the layered pouches and the color and designs on the fabric. I feel like this one is a bit more old school but in a good way.

Supplies:

• 2 fat quarters of fabric (Eco Canvas, Linen-Cotton Canvas, Faux Suede, or denim-like fabrics) in matching designs for the exterior of your fanny pack.
• 1 fat quarter of soft lining for your fanny pack.
• Two vinyl zippers: 6-inch & 12-inch or longer (Zippers will be cut during construction, but size given is the safe minimum length needed).
• Thread matching your fabrics
• Nylon webbing or a leather strap
• 3/4-inch wide, 16+ inches long
• 1 parachute buckle or clasp of your preference to fit 3/4-inch webbing/strap.

• 1″ webbing per your measurements

Here’s a very simple way to upcycle a pair of jeans into a small fanny pack. It’s not the most fashionable but it sure is functional!

• Old jeans
• Belt
• Velcro
• Scissors

6. Fun Fanny Pack

Here’s a more classically designed fanny pack. It keeps it simple – one large pocket perfect for holding your personal goods. What I really love about it is the bright color and pretty designs!

Supplies:

• 2 pieces of fabric approximately 14″ by 20″ (one for the inside of the fanny pack, one for the outside)
• An 8″ square for the pocket.
• 1 yard of strap
• 1 buckle
• 1 12″ nylon zipper.
• About a 1/2 meter of medium weight fusible interfacing

Although this DIY fanny pack may look slim, the creator says she was able to fit her phone, wallet, and a small digital camera inside! It also uses carabiners as the sort of belt buckle which you can also loop your keys around! Genius!

If you’re not worried about others seeing what you’re carrying around, this transparent fanny pack is pretty stylish! It will go with almost any outfit too and it’s perfect for exercising. You will need some sewing skills to put it together though.

This is another no-sew DIY fanny pack so it shouldn’t be hard to make. You’ll just have to pick up a zipper pouch from either a thrift store or some other retailer, and then find a belt that matches it!

Supplies:

• Crop-a-dile tool
• A zipper pouch, something smallish. I picked mine up from Old Navy. Just stick with something simple that doesn’t have a ton of pockets on the inside of it.
• Scissors
• A pen
• A skinny/thin belt that matches or coordinates with the zipper pouch you’re using
• Curtain Grommet Kit
• A large swivel lobster clasp
• Embroidery floss that matches the belt

This DIY fanny pack is pretty unique as you can easily attach and detach it from whatever belt you happen to have on hand! It’s also big enough to hold a camera which is a nice perk for photographers.
