How to make Nutella hot chocolate

Creamy Nutella Homemade Hot Chocolate

January is around the corner and winter has officially started! Have you been thinking that you might enjoy taking your hot chocolate up a notch? If so, then you might want to give this creamy Nutella hot chocolate recipe a try! It’s magical and decadent!

I mean, seriously, you’ve got sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, and Nutella involved here. You won’t get this type of rich flavor from a powder hot cocoa mix, that’s for sure! (If you are not familiar with Nutella, it is a popular hazelnut spread with cocoa.)

Don’t get me wrong, I am all for a good powder hot cocoa mix most of the time (pretty sure I have a few flavors of Stephen’s Gourmet Hot Cocoa in my pantry right now). But, homemade hot chocolate just has a special feel to it.

Plus, it isn’t hard to make (you basically just melt it all together and heat it all up) and it tastes delicious if you have a good recipe. So, if you’ve never made your own hot chocolate before (without the powder mix), get excited! You’re going to love this Nutella hot chocolate recipe.

A Word of Warning!

Before we get into the recipe I need to say this: I wouldn’t advise that you indulge in this Nutella hot cocoa every night. You’ll want to because it’s so tasty, but this sweet treat is better for special occasions. 😉

For example, it is perfect for after a fun winter family activity – like after a special sledding trip, walking around a light display downtown, watching or reading Polar Express, Christmas Eve or Christmas festivities, a DIY craft session, or even a fun snowball fight!

Basically, if you’re outside getting cold, this Nutella hot chocolate is the perfect treat to warm you upWe got this recipe from Amber. Thank you for sharing!

This is really easy! First add the chocolate chips, Nutella, and the condensed milk until melted. Then finish off with the evaporated milk and water and bring it to a boil. Let it cool and it’s ready to serve!

I believe this could also be made in a crockpot if you needed to make a larger amount, but I haven’t tried it yet. If you try it out, let me know how it goes!

Extra Nutella Hot Chocolate Recipe Tips

As you can see, we like to top our hot chocolate with mini marshmallows as they melt and create a nice creamy top layer. However, whip cream is just as delicious!

If your sweet tooth is extra strong, you can even microwave 1 tbsp Nutella + 1tbsp chocolate syrup to drizzle over the top, which adds a rich, fancy layer of deliciousness. Yum!
