Can you make a cheeseburger in the air fryer?

Yes! Air frying delivers a juicy center with a lightly crisp exterior—perfect for a cheeseburger crunch wrap. It’s faster than pan-frying and keeps splatter to a minimum. We build the air fryer cheeseburger crunch wrap with cheese, lettuce, pickles, and tomatoes, then air fry again to seal and crisp the tortilla.

Ingredients needed for Air Fryer Cheeseburger Crunch Wrap

classic burger ingredients for crunch wrap

Burger Patty Ingredients

  • Ground turkey or lean ground beef
  • Panko
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Milk
  • Onion powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Salt
  • Black pepper

Crunch Wrap Toppings

  • 2 burrito-size tortillas (for lower carbs, use a low-carb, high-fiber tortilla)
  • Cheese slices (cheddar, Monterey Jack, provolone, or your favorite)
  • Lettuce (or spinach)
  • Tomato
  • Onion (raw or sautéed)
  • Pickles
  • Optional add-ons: bacon, red onion, avocado slices

Step 1: Make up burger patties

mixing and forming homemade hamburger patties

Combine the ground meat with seasonings, panko, Worcestershire, milk, and spices. Form two even patties (slightly wider than the center of your tortilla—patties shrink as they cook). These patties are the juicy base of every air fryer cheeseburger crunch wrap.

Step 2: Cook burger patties

Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (193°C). Air fry patties for 4 minutes, flip, then cook 4–6 minutes more or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for ground beef/turkey. Use an instant-read thermometer for accuracy. Reference: USDA food safety.

How do you make a tortilla wrap?

assembling a cheeseburger crunch wrap with tortilla

While patties cook, prep toppings. Place one patty in the center of a burrito tortilla. Layer cheese, pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, and onions. Keep toppings within a 5–6″ circle so the tortilla can seal. This build gives the air fryer cheeseburger crunch wrap its classic crunchy bite.

Note on the traditional crunch wrap: The original Taco Bell–style crunch wrap usually includes a crunchy tostada or crispy tortilla inside. We skip that extra layer here to lighten carbs and calories. Want the full crunch? Place a tostada shell (or small crispy tortilla) directly on top of the cooked burger patty before adding cheese and veggies, then fold and cook as directed.

How to Fold a Crunch Wrap

folding a crunch wrap step by step

  1. Fold one edge of the tortilla toward the center.
  2. Move 1–2 inches clockwise and fold again toward the center.
  3. Continue around, creating overlapping pleats (a pinwheel) until sealed.

Seal tip: If the tortilla is stiff, microwave it 10–15 seconds to make it pliable. If it won’t quite close, add a small “patch” cut from a second tortilla over the center.

Cheeseburger Crunch Wrap instructions for the Air Fryer

air frying a folded crunch wrap until crispy

Spray the air fryer basket with a light coat of oil and place the wrap seam-side down. Lightly spritz the top (optional). Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 5–6 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp. The air fryer cheeseburger crunch wrap should be crunchy outside and melty inside.

Stovetop Cheeseburger Crunch Wrap Instructions

Don’t have an air fryer handy? You can still make a delicious cheeseburger crunch wrap on the stovetop. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat and add 1–2 teaspoons of oil. Place the folded cheeseburger crunch wrap seam-side down and cook 2–3 minutes until golden. Flip and cook another 2–3 minutes, pressing gently with a spatula to help the tortilla seal. Reduce heat if browning too fast. The goal is a crisp exterior and warm, melty center—very similar to the air fryer cheeseburger crunch wrap result.

Oven-Baked Cheeseburger Crunch Wrap Instructions

For batch cooking, bake the cheeseburger crunch wrap in the oven. Preheat to 425°F (218°C). Place wraps seam-side down on a parchment-lined sheet; brush or spray lightly with oil. Bake 8–10 minutes, flip, then bake 5–7 minutes more until evenly browned and crisp. This method is great when you want multiple cheeseburger crunch wraps ready at once with minimal hands-on time.

  • Don’t the additional 5-6 minutes for the tortilla grossly overcook the burger?

I want to adapt this for fish tacos but I’m afraid I’d be eating a bicycle tire at the end.

(I’m a new user…still feeling my way around the air fryer — and very grateful for your YouTube channel & all the info you provide – thanks!)

  • There is only one problem with the crunch wrap….you forgot the crunch! what makes a crunch wrap a
crunch wrap is the round crunchy tortilla they put inside. When I make them I usually just add a few tortilla chips to the inside. only gave 4 stars because you forgot the crunch! lol

  • Thanks for the recipe especially since I just nabbed an Air Fryer.
