Cute Valentines Day Craft

I love Valentine’s Day! The sweet and festive treats and recipes, the homemade crafts and cards, and even the non-candy card ideas for the class parties! Such a fun day, and with that I also like to decorate a little bit in the house. Here’s an easy idea I decided to try out…without spending a dime! Like most crafters I have a stash of supplies so I didn’t have to go buy anything to make this, which is always a bonus in my book. Here’s what you need to make this fun and cute banner:

Supplies:

  • 4 Solid sheets of cardstock
  • 2 polka dot paper (12×12)
  • 1 sheet of patterned paper
  • Chipboard letters-you can get them at Hobby Lobby or local scrapbook store
  • Mod Podge
  • Diamond Dust
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Yarn or ribbon

First cut out your hearts, I used my Silhouette, if you don’t have one then you can just cut some hearts with scissors or find some clip art you like and cut that out.

Next we are going to make the pinwheels. I love making pinwheels, they had fun depth and dimension to banners. They are pretty easy to make. First take your 12×12 paper and score it every 1/2 inch. I use my scoring blade on my paper trimmer. If you don’t have a scoring blade you can skip this step and just fold your paper after you have cut out the 2 inch strips.

Cut your scored paper in 2 inch strips.

Next put mod podge on your chipboard letters. I tried painting mine, but I didn’t like how it looked. If you don’t have mod podge you can use glue or a glue stick.

Put chipboard letters on patterned card stock and let dry for a few minutes.

I use an nail file to sand the paper off. You could also use an exact-o blade. The nail file goes really fast, just make sure you always go in a downward motion.

I use my scissors to cut out the center of the e and o then file the paper off.

Now comes the fun part, brush some mod podge on a letter

Sprinkle some diamond dust on the letter. Shake of the excess and let it dry for a few minutes.

Hot glue the pinwheels on the hearts

Hot glue the chipboard letters on top of the pinwheels

I love this pom-pom yarn. You can usually find it on sale or use a coupon at your favorite craft store. It comes in lots of fun colors. Hot glue the pom poms onto the hearts.

Hang it on your mantle and enjoy it!
