Air Fryer Onion Ingredients You Need
To make this delectable side dish, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- 1 onion (any kind, but preferably white or yellow)
- Avocado oil in a reusable oil sprayer
- Salt, to taste
Can You Air Fry Onions?
1. Prepare the Onion and Air Fryer
Preheat your air fryer to 380˚F/193˚C for 5 minutes. After the air fryer is heats up, lightly spray the air fryer basket with avocado oil using a reusable oil sprayer. This step will prevent the onions from sticking to the basket during cooking.
Then, get a fresh and firm onion. Peel off the outer skin and cut the onion into thin strips or slices, depending on your preference. The key is to create uniform pieces for even cooking.
2. Load the Onions into the Air Fryer
Place the sliced onions into the prepared air fryer basket. Ensure that the onions are spread out evenly for proper circulation of hot air, which will result in crispy and perfectly sautéed onions.
3. Season the Onions
Lightly spray the onions with avocado oil to enhance their caramelization and impart a delightful flavor. Then, sprinkle the onions with salt according to your taste preference. Be mindful not to oversalt as the flavor intensifies during the cooking process.
4. Air Fry the Onions
Now it’s time to let the air fryer work its magic! Slide the basket into the preheated air fryer and set the timer for 10 minutes at 380˚F/193˚C. Remember to stir the onions halfway through the cooking process to ensure even browning.
How do I know when Onions are Done in the Air Fryer?
After 10 minutes, open the air fryer and check the sautéed onions. They should have a rich golden-brown color and a tantalizing aroma. If you desire a darker shade, you can cook them for an additional minute or two.
What do I serve with sautéed onions?
Once the sautéed onions are done, transfer them to a serving dish, and they are ready to be savored! These caramelized delights can be used as a garnish for burgers, steaks, and sandwiches. They add depth of flavor to salads, pastas, and fajitas. Get creative and experiment with different dishes to find your perfect pairing!
Can I make sautéed onions ahead of time?
To save time, you can pre-cut onions and store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator, ready for sautéing whenever needed. To ensure and preserve fresh quality and taste, I recommend sautéing the onions when you need them.
