Valentine’s Day Gift you can Make Yourself

I decided today that I wanted to make a valentine to give my friends. Once upon a time I used to stamp valentine’s cards for my friends and family. Enter 4 kids in 5 years and I haven’t done anything for anyone. I have a “little” more free time these days and decided to do a little something for the women I love. {Now if you have a man you love with long hair, he just might like this too!}

I had a bunch of Fold Over Elastic (FOE)  which I had bought and designed some cute cards to put a hair tie on. If you haven’t tried these hair ties, you will love them! They don’t leave a crease in your hair, you can wear them on your wrist without them cutting off the circulation, and they are cute.  I’ve paid $4 for 4 of them before, this was BEFORE I found out how easy they are to make! I created a cute {FREE} printable for you to use.  Here is what you need to get started:

First you need to cut your Elastic. I cut mine 11 inches long. I like to wrap my hair tie around my hair 3 times and that is the perfect length for me. You can play with it though and try different lengths to see what works for your hair.

Fold it in half and bring the top edges together.  Don’t worry about those ugly edges we will take care of those later!

Now you are going to tie a knot in it

I wrap the Elastic around my finger, then bring the tail through the hole and pull it tight.

Next you want to burn the edges to seal them so it doesn’t fray.

DON’T skip this step, it will fray and just not last.

Use your paper trimmer to cut them out. I left a little white edge on each card. I have a lot of paper trimmers and this Fiskars one is my favorite one.

Now you just slide your Elastic hair tie onto the card, sign your name and give them to your friends. I used these cool Gold Sharpies to sign mine.  You can find a package of gold, silver and bronze here.

I hope you like these cards and hair ties as much as I do! These are quick and easy to make for all the lovely ladies in your life. I’m planning on dropping some in the mail  to some of my friends that I don’t live by anymore, who doesn’t like to get a happy card in the mail?!
