23 Homemade Body Scrubs to Revitalize Your Skin
Why Homemade Body Scrubs Are Amazing
There are a ton of different beauty products out there but one that has been making the rounds recently are body scrubs. I’ve seen these popping up in stores all over the place and I’ve noticed one thing: they’re quite expensive!
You can either buy the high-end all natural ones for a small fortune or you can settle for the cheaper ones that contain who knows what in them. The better option? Make your own homemade body scrubs from scratch!
It’s honestly easier than you’d think and the results are just as good (or better) than the store-bought scrubs. Plus, you can customize your DIY body scrubs however you want! Add your own scents, ingredients, and colors!
Benefits of Using Body Scrubs
So, why would you want to use a body scrub anyway? Well, the main benefit is that they help exfoliate your skin. Most body scrub recipes typically have sugar, salt, or sometimes even coffee in them to help rub away dead skin cells, leaving your skin softer and smoother than before.
On top of that, most of the homemade body scrub recipes you’ll find below contain moisturizing oils that will keep your skin healthy and some even contain essential oils that will lift your mood, help you relax, or give you a boost of energy.
The bottom line is that these things are awesome you guys! The fact that you can make them for so cheap make them not only great for personal use, but also as homemade gifts for friends and family! They would make a great baby shower gift!
Best DIY Body Scrubs for Healthy Skin and Pure Relaxation
1. Peppermint Sugar Scrub
Starting off we have our holiday-themed peppermint sugar scrub recipe! I really love how cute the layered colors look and this body scrub really makes for a great homemade gift around the holidays.
As for the effectiveness of this scrub, I really like it! It’s not too oily and it really helps to exfoliate and moisturize skin. The peppermint oil in the scrub gives it an energizing feeling as well.
Ingredients:
- Granulated sugar, divided
- Almond oil or fractionated coconut oil, divided
- doTERRA Peppermint Essential Oil
- Red food coloring (or raspberry juice)
2. Lavender Coconut Salt Scrub
So, the scrub above is a sugar scrub, but this scrub is actually made with Epsom salts. The main difference between salt and sugar scrubs is just that salt scrubs are a bit rougher so they exfoliate more.
Because of this, the salt scrubs are great to use on places like your legs, feet and arms, but you probably don’t want to use them on your face. Use a sugar scrub for that instead.
By the way, this scrub uses lavender essential oil which is AMAZING for your skin. We really love essential oils here because they have so many great healing properties!
Ingredients:
- Virgin coconut oil
- Epsom salt (or pink Himalayan or sea salt)
- Lavender essential oil (or any essential oil of your choosing)
- Fractionated coconut oil
3. Mermaid Sugar Scrub
This is another simple DIY body scrub and I just love how mystical it looks! You could whip up a big batch of this for a themed birthday party or something and give small containers of it away in gift bags. It only takes a couple of minutes to make so it wouldn’t take long either!
Ingredients:
- White sugar
- Coconut oil
- Blue food coloring
- Blue and/or purple sugar sprinkles
- Lavender essential oil
4. Lemongrass and Chamomile Foot Scrub
This is another salt scrub and although it says it’s a foot scrub, you could really use it anywhere on your body that needs a deep exfoliation! The great thing about this particular scrub is that it has chamomile in it which can help relieve anxiety, it’s great for your skin, it’s relaxing, and it has other benefits as well.
Ingredients:
- Granulated sugar
- Coconut oil (olive or almond oil work as well)
- Epsom salts
- Baking soda
- Chamomile tea bags
- Chamomile essential oil
- Lemongrass essential oil
- Lavender essential oil
- Optional – blue soap colorant
5. Charcoal Coffee Scrub
This scrub is what I would call a super scrub! Not only is it amazing because it smells like coffee, but it also helps to break down cellulite and the charcoal helps pull bacteria and toxins from your skin.
This scrub is also loaded with geranium oil and lime oil which have their own list of benefits as well. Definitely a must-try!

7. Sugar Scrub Cubes
These sugar scrub cubes are like a mix of homemade soap and body scrub at the same time. Best of both worlds!
