We all have to one day face the facts that our loved ones age. As I myself grow older each year, watching those around me age has brought a sense of reflection. What option will we choose when we have to make the decision of who will care for those we love most? I can’t imagine my Mother, or Father, having to uproot and change their lifestyle… or stop doing the things they love most. I want them to keep their lifestyle for as long as possible.
I recently had the chance to interview a business owner that specializes in this field, Sonia Yates. She is a local owner of Comfort Keepers™, a company that cares for clients and loved ones within the comforts of their own home.
Fabulessly Frugal: “What is Comfort Keepers and how does it work?”
Sonia: “Comfort Keepers is more than the company name, it’s what they call their caregivers because they do so much more than provide care. Comfort Keepers strives to elevate the human spirit every day and help make our clients’ lives brighter, safer and more enjoyable – all form the comfort of home.
As loved ones age, it’s easy to focus on what they might be losing by hiring a caregiver. Comfort Keepers is changing this mindset by concentrating on the freedom, joyful moments and experiences clients are gaining with caregiver services. Different from other caregiving organizations that tend to view this life stage through the lens of fear, loss and anxiety. Comfort Keepers looks for ways to inspire purpose in their clients’ lives.”
Fabulessly Frugal: “How have you seen your clients lives brighter, safer or more enjoyable?”
Sonia: “Most of our clients get to keep many of their current lifestyles. This is a huge perk with Comfort Keepers. The caregivers help them seamlessly integrate their everyday hobbies into their new way of living. We try and help keep everyone’s hobbies, passions, and interests a part of their everyday life!”
Fabulessly Frugal: “How have you seen clients emotionally benefit from Comfort Keepers vs other senior living options?”
Sonia: “The interactive caregiving that Comfort Keepers provide is by respecting our Clients’ life styles, decisions and independence. This makes them happy and feel in control of their lives. The fact that they can stay in their homes or independent setting allows them to feel more comfortable. The Clients that come to Comfort Keepers are happier and more excited to have someone come into their home. We have a client that was with other agencies, she came to Comfort Keepers, and now she is excited to have her, “Comfort Keeper friend” come in. Most of our clients consider their Comfort Keepers a friend and someone they can trust and rely on if they need help.”
Fabulessly Frugal: “How has your team gone above and beyond? Is there a service or a caregiver you would like to highlight?”
Sonia: “Comfort Keepers is so blessed to have amazing Comfort Keepers that truly love their jobs and care about their clients and their clients’ families. They are consistently going above and beyond what the client’s expectations are. They bring goodies to their clients and they make sure they are communicating well with the loved one’s families involved. Our Comfort Keeper, Michelle Hazzard, has had her Parkinson’s Client for over four years. She has made her Client feel so comfortable, and confident, even when he is declining. She provides his wife with emotional, spiritual and physical support so she can have a break. They both look forward to each time Michelle comes over. They treat each other like family!
We love our clients, and their families! They feel like extended family to us… and that’s what makes us different!”
