DIY Phone Charger Station and Accessory Holders
Useful Ways to Upcycle Common Household Items
I love finding ways to “upcycle” common household products into something useful. I saw these accessory holders made out of old plastic bottles and they looked so practical and easy to make that I just had to try it out myself!
The best part? You can make this in less than 30 minutes! I was able to organize some really unorganized items in my house (please tell me I’m not the only one with those “things” that need a home) with this simple DIY.
I think my favorite one is the DIY cell phone charging station. I love how it keeps the cord and phone off the floor or counter all organized in one little space! I’m planning on making more of these DIY phone holders for my kids’ rooms as well!
How to Make a DIY Phone Charger Station
- Decorative Contact Paper (I just picked some up from the dollar store)
- An empty bottle of baby wash or baby lotion.
- Scissors or a box cutter
Step 1. Cutting the Bottle
Outline the shape you want with a sharpie marker. Don’t worry if you make mistakes (as you can tell from my bottle I did too). You can cover it or paint it, so you won’t see that part anyway.
Next, cut the bottle with a box cutter. Once I had the cut going I switched to a pair of sharp scissors and it was so much easier and more controlled. Make sure you cut the hole to hang on the plug in the outlet.
Step 2. Decorating the Phone Holder
Flip your contact paper to the back side and trace the shape of the bottle starting at the middle of the back side of the bottle.
Next, cut out the contact paper, then remove the backing and carefully stick the paper onto the bottle making sure to clip the paper at the corners of the bottle so it will lay down flat.
Note: Watch out for air bubbles, most of them can be worked out with your fingers. You could also spray paint the bottle (a chalk spray paint might be fun!). And there you go… easy peasy!
How to Make an Upcycled Accessory Holder
I love how practical this is! You can use it for so many things! Craft supplies, thread, pens, markers, scrubbers, and the list goes on!
These can easily hang from a knob, hook or you could spool them through a wooden dowl and hang it from somewhere.
- Empty Cleaning Wipes Container (any size will work)
- Scissors or box cutter
- Sharpie for tracing shape
Remove the label from the container and take off the lid. The back third of the container will be taller for the portion that hangs on the knob.
Trace the shape of the holder with a sharpie and begin cutting the hanger part at the very top of the container with a box cutter. Just like with the phone holder, once you start the cut, finish with some sharp scissors and follow the lines.
Then cut a hole in the sloped part so you can hang the container from a knob or hook. Simple! Just fill the container with the small household accessories!
This is such an easy and practical DIY!
I love my new DIY accessory holders! This is such an easy way to deal with those small items that end up causing a big clutter!
I think everyone should make one of their own DIY phone holders as well. So convenient, perfect for charging when there’s no counter/table space available, and customizable too!
