DIY $2 Mesh Bottom Beach Bag!! No Sew!

Ok. So I was browsing the internet the other day when I came across a mesh beach bag. I thought it was a GREAT idea, especially since we’ve been spending quite a bit of time by the water these last few months. The problem was, it was $25. I KNEW it was something I could make at home so I had to try and it came out PERFECT!

If you spend a lot of time outdoors, you’re going to want to make one of these for yourself too. It makes shaking the sand right out of your bag a cinch!

Here’s what you need:

• Reusable Grocery Bag (the stronger the material the better the bag)
• Mesh Laundry Bag (Dollar Tree)
• Fabric Glue
• Scissors

*If you don’t already have some sort of glue you can use on fabric, this will up your cost a bit. You’re going to want to stick with a glue made special for the material.

Grab your reusable grocery bag and lets get to work!!

Place your reusable bag on a large surface; you’re going to need lots of room.

Make sure the bottom of the bag is folded over. Now, take a pair of scissors and cut using the fold of the base of the bag as a guideline.

Once the bottom is cut off, flip the bag inside out and place your mesh laundry bag over the top of your grocery bag. Decide how long you want your bag to be and cut it at your desired length.

Open your fabric glue and line the base of your bag.

*Do not glue the top of the mesh to the bottom glue line. You want your mesh to be glued with a bit of excess length for extra support.

Press your mesh into your glue.

Now, lay the extra mesh out. Create a second line of glue where the mesh reaches. Set the bag aside for a minute and go back to the material left over from the bottom. Cut it in half so that you’re left with two long strips. Use one of those strips to secure the mesh by placing it over the mesh and glue.

As you can see, my liner is not long enough for the bag. To fix this, I used the material from the “tabs” that were cut off the base of the bag.

Let the glue dry a minimum of 6 hours.

Flip the bag over and repeat the gluing on the other side.

Let bag dry overnight.

Once the bag has dried at least 12 hours, flip it right-side-out and put it to use!!

You’re going to be surprised by how sturdy this bag is. I was worried it wouldn’t hold up well since it’s glued (I don’t sew) but it held up VERY well. I was able to put a heavy towel, shoes, spray, and a few other things into it without any fear that the bottom would fall out.
