52 Weeks of Pinterest: Week 16 – DIY Scented Laundry Crystals!

This year I wanted to go with a resolution I would have no problem sticking to! Then as I was pinning an item on Pinterest, a light bulb flashed on above my head. Ok, maybe not literally, but this great idea popped into my head. Those of us who are Pinterest users know that we pin hundreds of things a week, but do we ever do them? So I decided this year I would do one of my pins every week. At the moment, 52 weeks of Pinterest was born. Each week I will do something I found on Pinterest rather it be a craft, new recipe, organizing technique, or whatever!

This week I went for a pin for our DIY Home Products  Board - DIY Scented Laundry Crystals! Just like spendy Purex Crystals.

What You Need:

Epsom Salt
Essential Oil (whatever scent you would  like)

I LOVE Purex Crystals, mostly because I am a scent junkie of any kind. What I don’t love is the outrageous cost for the product.

So I decided to find away to make my own via Pinterest!

The recipe can’t be any simpler either and that makes me even happier. For every one cup of Epsom salt, add 10 drops of essential oil. I got a 2lb bag of Epsom salt at Walmart for $.88. So I had 4 cups of Epsom Salt and 40 drops of essential oil in my crystals. I did a mixture of lavender and a citrus oil in mine because I love those two combined, but use what you would like. Just mix your Epsom Salt with the oil in the container or a seperate bowl with a spoon.

Make sure to store your crystals in a container with a lid.

A few side notes on this project:

I have read Epsom salt helps soften clothes.

When doing laundry, just add the crystals (about ¼ cup per load) when you do the soap, on top of the clothing.

This took me literally 1 minute to make.

The scent is not as strong as Purex Crystals (I am sure adding more oil could fix that) but you can surely smell it and I LOVE it. Plus – no harsh chemicals!

Make sure to pin this to Pinterest to save for later! If you are not following us on Pinterest, make sure to do so now so you don’t miss out on some great pins!

Hope you enjoyed Week 16 of 52 Weeks of Pinterest, come back next Saturday for another attempted pin!If you don’t want to wait a week for a new pin idea, checkout our DIY posts, there are some great ideas there as well!
