5 DIY Poncho Ideas That Look Great

It’s fashion DIY time beautiful ladies! Winter/Fall time is a time where it’s tempting to wear baggy sweaters and sweatpants, but those aren’t the most stylish.

If you want a new piece in your wardrobe that’s warm and cozy (and super unique), you’ve got to try one of these DIY poncho ideas! You can customize your own poncho to suit your style, and you’ll have something that nobody else does.

Plus, it’s not as hard as you may think to make your own poncho. Some of these ideas don’t even require any sewing! You could also make a cute little poncho for your kids if you want!

5 DIY Poncho Ideas

1. Cute Poncho Out of an Old Blanket

This DIY poncho can be made from any blanket you like which means you can personalize however you want. Since it’s made from a blanket it will also be nice and warm which makes it great for those chilly days!

YOU WILL NEED:

• A blanket or throw (preferably one that will fit you well as a poncho. If you’re unsure about this, try draping it over yourself to see)
• A pair of scissors
• A sewing machine or a needle and thread
• (optional) pom poms, fringe or other embellishments OR a cute hoodie to layer under your poncho

2. No Sew Poncho Blouse

If you’re not interested in sewing or you just don’t have a sewing machine readily available, this DIY poncho is going to be more up your alley. It’s very simple & stylish as well.

YOU WILL NEED:

• 1 linear yard of non-fraying fabric at least 60 inches wide such as lightweight flannel or knit fabric. I used Ponte knit.
• Leather Cording
• Scissors
• Rotary cutter
• Chalk for marking
• Ruler

3. DIY No Sew Flannel Poncho

Another no-sew DIY poncho here. The project was originally made for children but you could probably modify it a bit to make an adult-sized one.

YOU WILL NEED:

• 1-yard fabric (I used flannel)
• 1 package of fusible bonding web (stitch witchery)
• Fabric Scissors
• Measuring Tape
• Iron

This is a super stylish poncho and it’s so simple to make. The original creator made hers in less than 30-minutes!

YOU WILL NEED:

• 1-yard wool
• scissors
• chalk

This DIY poncho with a hood and polka dots is going to look adorable on your little one. Perfect for the rainy weather as well!

YOU WILL NEED:

• 1.5 yds laminate cotton – Exterior Fabric
• 1.5 yds Cotton – Lining
• A t-shirt that fits well for the pattern
• Basic Sewing Essentials
