Make Your Old Table Look Like New Again

We have had this folding table FOREVER, probably around 8 years and it has seen better days:

DIY folding table makeover

My girls LOVE to have tea parties and always use this nasty table. I looked at it and decided it would be really easy to take apart and spruce up for just a few dollars.

The same techniques that I used for this DIY folding table makeover would probably work similarly with any other table, so if you have an old table sitting around give it a shot! You can literally make your furniture look brand new again with some simple paint and some other supplies.

How to Do a Folding Table Makeover

Step 1.

Use a screwdriver to remove the top of the table from the base.

Using painters tape to protect the ends of the folding table

Step 2.

Tape the feet with Painter’s tape.

Painting the folding table

Step 3.

Take your folding table outside and spray paint it. I put a box down so I wouldn’t turn my grass blue!

I love the Krylon Spray Paint because you can change the nozzle for how you are spraying. You can get some here.

Step 4.

It took about 2 coats to paint the table. I let it dry between coats.

Resurface folding table

Step 5.

While it is drying, you can start to resurface your folding table. I got my flannel backed vinyl material from hobby lobby. It cost under $3 for a yard. You could also use a table cloth.

Stapling new surface to folding table

Step 6.

I left the other table top on, but you can remove it if you want. Use the staple gun to staple the material to the table top.

Trimming the table resurface

Step 7.

Trim it close to the edge so you can screw it back to the base easily.

Fully resurface folding table

This is how your table should look after you’ve finished resurfacing.

Using a hammer to nail down staples

Step 8.

Hammer in any staples that didn’t go all the way in.

Screwing folding table back together

Step 9.

Now you are ready to screw it back to the table base.

Look at that difference!

Honestly, I’m pretty proud of how well this DIY folding table makeover turned out. I almost can’t even recognize the table anymore! I really love how to zebra print looks and the spray paint color goes really nicely with it.

I wasn’t the only one loving the results of this DIY either, my girls were so excited about their “new” table. Their tea parties are going to be much fancier now!

My favorite thing about this project is that it only cost me $3 to do! This is because I already had the spray paint, but even if I didn’t it wouldn’t have cost me too much to go out and buy some. Definitely worth it for the result!
