52 Weeks of Pinterest: Week 25 – Homemade Icees!

This year I wanted to go with a resolution I would have no problem sticking to! Then as I was pinning an item on Pinterest, a light bulb flashed on above my head. Ok, maybe not literally, but this great idea popped into my head. Those of us who are Pinterest users know that we pin hundreds of things a week, but do we ever do them? So I decided this year I would do one of my pins every week. At the moment, 52 weeks of Pinterest was born. Each week I will do something I found on Pinterest rather it be a craft, new recipe, organizing technique, or whatever!

This week I went with a pin from the DIY Boards: Homemade Icees!

What You Need:

1 packet Kool Aid (any flavor)
2 cups seltzer or club soda (I used seltzer)
1/2 cup sugar
2 1/2 cups ice
A Blender
I had a hard time finding seltzer water in the store. I was always looking by the soda area, it’s actually by the cases of water and what not. Figured I would share this tid-bit for anyone else who had the issue. I picked mine up at Walmart for $.64.
This recipe is super simple and a great way to entertain the little ones. We all know how costly going down to the local convenient store can be for just a few Icees.
The first things you will want to do is add you Kool-Aid packet, sugar and 1 cup of the selzter, reserving 1 cup, water to your blender. Mix it with a wooden spoon until the sugar and Kool-Aid are dissolved and no longer clumpy.
Add in all of your ice and blend it pulse it in the blender until the big chunks of ice are broken down.Add your remaining cup of seltzler and blend for just a second to get the seltzer mixed through.
And that’s it. Pour in the cup and you have some awesome Icees. The original suggests you freeze your glasses for 30 minutes before you make them. We did not, they just move to a liquefied state sooner …. but who even waits that long to drink an Icee?? 🙂 Not me.
We have tried 3 different flavors now including Watermelon, orange, and mixed berry; they were all delish.

Make sure to pin this to Pinterest to save for later! If you are not following us on Pinterest, make sure to do so now so you don’t miss out on some great pins!
